Storm Falls in Series Opener at Southeastern

SNU takes early lead, but Savage Storm respond to secure 7-2 win.

DURANT, Okla. - Southern Nazarene kicked off its three game series against Southeastern Oklahoma State but came up short in a 7-2 loss.

The Crimson Storm (5-11,1-6 GAC) got on the board first after Antonio Sabala singled and Brady Benedict was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Weston Hicks later drew a walk, and Chase Hudson was also hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Blake Brinkmeyer then worked an RBI, bringing Benedict home for the 1-0 lead.

Southeastern Oklahoma State (6-9, 5-2 GAC) answered right away, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first to take control at 4-1. SE added another run in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-1, then tacked on one more in the sixth to make it a five run game.

Southern Nazarene found some life in the seventh when Aiden McCullough led off with a single. After a fielder's choice, Hicks ripped a double to right center, scoring Benedict to cut the lead to 6-2. Jaxon Gless then worked a walk, but the Savage Storm got out of the inning.

Southeastern added one last run in the bottom of the seventh, putting the game out of reach. With the 7-2 win, Southeastern took game one and SNU will look to even the series in game two tomorrow.
