Crimson Storm Split Doubleheader with SAU

Storm avoids the sweep taking one from the Muleriders

MAGNOLIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm returned to action to finish off their three-game series with Southern Arkansas. The Muleriders took the series, but the Storm avoided the sweep thanks to a shutout performance from Janie Worthington.

Game 1

The Crimson Storm (8-8, 1-2 GAC) looked out even the series as they struck first thanks to a single up the middle from Kristen Mullendore that plated one run. The Muleriders (10-52-1, GAC) wasted no time responding in the bottom half of the second as Jenna Huey hammered a grand slam to take a 4-1 lead.

The Storm responded in the third plating two thanks to an Eden Anderson double and an SAU error. The Muleriders extended their lead once again in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to lead 5-3.

Maddie Southerland took over in the circle handing Southern Arkansas two scoreless frames, but the SAU bats fired back up in the sixth as SAU notched two more runs.

The Storm needed a spark and got just that in the top of the seventh as Hailey Evans sent a two-run blast over the left field fence to trail the Muleriders 7-5. SAU recorded the final three outs they needed to secure the series and the 7-5 victory over Southern Nazarene.

Game 2

The Crimson Storm avoided the series sweep as Janie Worthington dominated in the circle for SNU. Worthington threw her second shutout of the season, only allowing one run in the fifth.

Liana Heshiki got the Storm on the board after a double to right center plated Kelsi Hilton in the top of the second.

It was a pitcher's duel from there until Southern Nazarene struck again in the sixth inning. Another RBI from Heshiki sent Peyton Norvelle home and a single from Evans plated one more insurance run.

Worthington finished off the SAU offense handing them two more scoreless frames as the Storm collected the 3-0 win in Magnolia.

Next Up
