ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm hit the road for a rubber match in Arkadelphia as they met Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers were able to fend off the Storm handing SNU a 76-70 defeat.
Despite four Crimson Storm (18-5,15-4 GAC) members notching double-digit points, the Tigers' (18-7,13-6 GAC) 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the second half sealed the deal in Ouachita's triumphant victory over Southern Nazarene.
The Tigers got on the board first but the Storm was not far behind as they opened up the contest with a 7-0 run. Southern Nazarene remained in control before a step-back shot from Ouachita tied the score.Â
The two squads traded points before the Tigers jumped in front with six straight points to lead 21-13 with 7:32 left to play in the first half. The Storm was unphased as
Jeremy Golson knocked down back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to one.
Baron Bracey then followed with a layup to put SNU in front 24-23.
The Crimson Storm maintained their lead before four last-minute points from Ouachita gave the Tigers a 32-28 lead over SNU at the break.
The Storm began to chip away as
James Burries went to the charity stripe to begin the second half. The Tigers remained in front, but another free throw and bucket from Burries gave SNU a 39-37 lead.Â
Ouachita responded by rattling off eight quick points to jump back in front.
Stevie Strong responded knocking down two free throws to cut the deficit to two with 12:08 left to play.
Tracy Godfrey Jr. teamed up with Bracey for a pair of layups to take back the lead at 49-47. The Tigers continued to creep back, but Bracey knocked down a triple to keep the momentum with the Storm.
A 12-4 run for Ouachita Baptist put SNU in a bit of a hole with just over a minute left to play. The Storm attempted a comeback as
Colby Henderson notched a tip-in, but it was not enough as the Tigers took the victory 76-70 in Arkadelphia.
