Storm Fall in Conference Opener

SNU falls to No. 23 UAM in Monticello Arkansas

MONTICELLO, Ark.- Southern Nazarene kicked off Great American Conference play with a tough road test, taking on No. 23 Arkansas-Monticello for a three game series. The Storm put some early runs on the board, but the Weevils bats were on fire, making it a long night for SNU falling 22-4.

The Storm (4-5, 0-1 GAC) got things rolling early as Weston Hicks took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch to put runners on. Moments later, Tucker LeMay reached on an UAM (6-1, 1-0 GAC) error bringing Antonio Sabala home to give SNU a quick 1-0 lead.

But that lead didn't last long as UAM came out swinging in the bottom of the first, scoring nine runs on six hits to take control.

SNU wasn't done yet, though. In the second, the Storm chipped away as Jaxon Gless reached on an error, and Brinkmeyer came through with a clutch RBI single to get one back.
Hicks kept the momentum going with a knock to left, bringing in another run to make it 9-3.

The Storm kept battling in the third as LeMay worked a walk, and Ryan Talley ripped a double to the gap, cutting the deficit to five. But the Weevils weren't slowing down.
After a few innings, they came again in the sixth, putting up seven more runs on five hits to take full control. UAM kept piling on runs, and the Storm couldn't keep up, falling 22-4 in their first conference game of the season.
