Crimson Storm Fall to the Tigers in Bethany

East Central hands SNU their first home conference loss of the season

BETHANY, Okla.- The No. 12 Crimson Storm returned to the Sawyer Center to host the Tigers of East Central for a weekend matchup. The ECU offense was hard to handle as they knocked off the Crimson Storm 79-67.

The Crimson Storm (18-4,15-3 GAC) played catch for most of the afternoon as the Tigers (10-14,7-11 GAC) were impressive from beyond the arc shooting 57.1 percent. This marked East Central's second highest shooting percentage from three so far this season.

The first half was dominated by East Central as SNU trailed for the full 20 minutes. The Tigers took an early 9-3 lead before a three from Jeremy Golson cut the deficit to three.

The two squads traded points, but the Crimson Storm was unable to get in front as ECU remained in control. Tracy Godfrey Jr. knocked down two free throws to put the Storm within four, but once again ECU knocked down a three in response.

Tavares Oliver hit a pull-up jumper to cut the East Central lead to 22-17, but another Tiger three put SNU back in a hole. Baron Bracey knocked down a bucket to cut into the East Central lead. It was a defense battle from three as nearly three minutes passed before either team recorded another point.

James Burries sparked a 9-0 Crimson Storm run with a three helping Southern Nazarene shrink the lead to 28-25 with 3:16 left to play. The Tigers finished off the first half with an 11-0 run thanks to three buckets from beyond the arc to lead SNU 37-28 at the break.

The Crimson Storm was able to cut the deficit to five after a pair of free throws from Bracey. Southern Nazarene continued to linger with the help of a few trips to the charity stripe, but still struggled to keep up offensively.

The SNU defense was able to shut down the Tigers from three in the second half allowing just three triples, but ECU went to work in the paint to maintain their lead. Southern Nazarene was unable to find their rhythm as they were handed their first home conference loss this season.
