Bison Knock Off the Crimson Storm in Shawnee

No. 12 Southern Nazarene comes up short on the road at Oklahoma Baptist, 81-71

SHAWNEE, Okla. - The No. 12 Crimson Storm headed to Shawnee for their second meeting with the Bison this season. Oklahoma Baptist took advantage of their home court handing SNU just their second conference loss of the season, 81-71.

Oklahoma Baptist ( 15-8,12-5 GAC) dominated from the field shooting 50 percent compared to the Crimson Storm's (15-8,12-5 GAC)  40 percent as the Bison got their revenge after falling to the Crimson Storm by 26 earlier this season. SNU was unable to find their rhythm once the Bison took the lead in the first half as they controlled the rest of the contest.

OBU notched the first points of the night before the Crimson Storm exploded for a 9-0 run sparked by a three from James Burries. SNU held their lead, but the Bison slowly chipped away with a few buckets and free throws to cut the deficit to four.

An Oklahoma Baptist three put the Bison within one, but SNU pushed their lead back to five after two trips to the charity stripe. Tracy Godfrey Jr. went to work in the paint tacking on a layup and drawing a foul as he completed the three-point play to maintain the SNU lead at 21-14.

The Bison took over from there with a 12-0 run that started on an SNU turnover. OBU continued their momentum knocking down a three to push their lead to eight with 4:06 left to play in the first half. Oklahoma Baptist remained in control as the Storm tried to chip away with a Jeremy Golson three.

The shots continued to fall for the Bison as they snuck in one final three before the halftime buzzer to lead the Crimson Storm 39-30 at the break.

The Storm looked for a response to open up the second half as Godfrey Jr. continued to add to his stat line before Baron Bracey knocked down a three to cut the Bison lead to five. The Crimson Storm continued to hang around, but a three from OBU pushed their lead back to eight with just under 11 minutes left to play.

The Bison then went on a 13-3 run making a Southern Nazarene comeback seem more and more out of reach. The Storm was not finished as Bracey and Stevie Strong teamed up for a few buckets, but the Bison remained in front by eight.

Golson knocked down another three to cut the lead to 69-62, but the Bison continued to dominate offensively, responding with a fastbreak three to push their lead back to 11 with 2:23 left to play.

The two squads traded points in the final minute of the contest as the Bison came away with the 81-71 victory over Southern Nazarene in Shawnee.
