Rangers Hand Crimson Storm Their First Loss This Season

No. 3 Southern Nazarene stunned at the buzzer as NWOSU wins 63-60

ALVA, Okla. — No. 3 Southern Nazarene battled down to the final possessions Thursday evening but came up just short in a 63–60 buzzer beater loss at Northwestern Oklahoma State.

The Crimson Storm (10–1, 4–1 GAC) set the tone early, building a narrow halftime advantage behind balanced scoring and solid defensive play. SNU led 33–29 at the break after holding Northwestern (5-6, 2-3 GAC) to under 40 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes and controlling the glass.

Northwestern Oklahoma State responded in the second half, using a strong stretch of play coming out of the locker room to flip the game. The Rangers outscored SNU 34–27 in the final period, capitalizing at the free-throw line and converting key buckets in a tightly contested final 10 minutes.

Baron Bracey led the Crimson Storm with 16 points, knocking down five field goals and going a perfect 5-for-5 at the free-throw line while also pulling down nine rebounds. Tracy Godfrey Jr. added eight points and five rebounds, while Malik Edwards and Bam Johnson each contributed six points to the scoring effort.

Colby Henderson provided a spark off the bench with six points and five rebounds, and Joe Mpoyo knocked down a pair of three-pointers to finish with six points as SNU's bench accounted for 20 points on the night.

Southern Nazarene finished with a 32–29 rebounding edge and scored 28 points in the paint while forcing 12 Northwestern turnovers and converting them into 19 points. The Storm also stayed aggressive offensively, earning 15 trips to the free-throw line.

A late push for the Rangers and a buzzer beater shot from Mikey Hawkins was all it took as Northwestern handed the Crimson Storm their first loss on the season, 63-60.
