SNU Secure 64-45 Win Over Ouachita Baptist

Giddey notches her eighth double-double of the season as SNU defeat the Tigers

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm put on a strong performance in the Sawyer Center this afternoon, securing a 64-45 win over Ouachita Baptist. Southern Nazarene was once again powered by Hannah Giddey, who notched her eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Southern Nazarene (11-5, 8-2 GAC) got off to a very quick start, taking control early with solid offensive and defensive plays. Katie King opened the scoring up with a layup in the paint. Ouachita Baptist then (7-7, 3-7 GAC) responded with a three pointer and some free throws from Laney Mears, Madeline Tipton, and then Hedi Robinson. However, the Storm quickly built momentum with baskets from Giddey and Braci Nyberg, pulling ahead to an 18-9 lead by the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Storm continued to dominate as Umi Otsuka added to the lead with a tip in, followed by another from Giddey. The Tigers made a late push with a jumper from Mears, assisted by Abbey Harrison, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Storm, who went into halftime with a 30-20 advantage.

After halftime, Giddey kept the energy alive with a layup in the paint. Jordan Hoffman followed up with another layup of her own, helping Southern Nazarene widen their lead once agian. Ouachita Baptist's Abbey Harrison added a bucket with a layup off an assist from Heidi Robinson but by the end of the third quarter, the Storm maintained their lead, heading into the final quarter up 40-30.

In the fourth quarter, OBU's Audri Winfrey got things started with a tip in. SNU quickly answered back as Otsuka drained a three pointer, set up by Giddey. Nyberg then joined in on the action with a three pointer of her own, assisted by Otsuka. Giddey continued her strong play with another layup in the paint. The Tigers' Joey Babel tried to keep Ouachita in the game with a layup in the paint, and Kerolene Santos added another layup, but it wasn't enough. As the clock wound down, the Crimson Storm sealed a commanding 64-45 victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers.

The Storm will take on Oklahoma Baptist University in the Sawyer Center,  Thursday January 23 at 5:30 pm in the Sawyer Center.
