Crimson Storm Earn Bounce Back Win Over ATU

Southern Nazarene takes down Arkansas Tech on the road, 60-55

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Crimson Storm continued their road stint at Arkansas Tech as they took on the Wonder Boys for a weekend matchup. Southern Nazarene collected the bounce back win over the Wonder Boys, 60-55 in Russellville.

Despite a tough Arkansas Tech (6-8,3-5 GAC) defense forcing 15 SNU (10-2,7-1 GAC) turnovers, the Crimson Storm dominated the boards collecting 41 rebounds on the day to pick up their tenth win of the season.

The Crimson Storm got on the board first after a three pointer and a layup from Colby Henderson. The Storm took off from there as Stevie Strong dropped in a layup and Jeremy Golson drained a three to put SNU ahead 10-2.

Southern Nazarene maintained their early lead as Baron Bracey notched a bucket from beyond the arc to give the Storm a 19-8 lead with 10:26 left in the first half. The Wonder Boys began to chip away at the SNU lead, but Bam Johnson went to work in the paint while collecting a foul to make it a three point play.

A pair of made free throws for ATU cut the deficit to five, but a layup from Tracy Godfrey Jr. extended the Storm lead back to seven. With just two minutes left to play in the first half, both squads turned up the defense only allowing one shot a piece in the final minutes. James Burries notched one final layup as Southern Nazarene held on with a 30-23 lead at the break.

The Wonder Boys looked to even the score as they knocked down a quick three to open up the second half. The Storm was unphased as Burries knocked down a jumper and Strong nailed a three to put SNU ahead, 35-26. A 6-0 run from Arkansas Tech cut the deficit to just one with 13:35 left to play.

Another 6-0 run from the Wonder Boys gave them their first lead of the contest, 42-41. The two squads battled back and forth, but Golson hit a dagger three putting SNU back in front. Each team took turns with the lead, but a trip to the charity stripe from Johnson tied the score at 53 with just under four minutes left in the game.

Golson continued to dominate from beyond the arc knocking down another three to give the Crimson Storm a 58-55 lead with 35 seconds left on the clock.  Strong made his way to the foul line knocking down two shots to secure the Southern Nazarene victory, 60-55.
