Storm Stumble in Battle with the Bulldogs

Crimson Storm battle Southwestern Oklahoma State on the road, but fall 24-17

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hit the road as they traveled to face off with the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. In a back and forth contest the Storm was unable to hold on as the Bulldogs took the 24-17 victory over SNU.

Southern Nazarene (0-4, 0-4 GAC) looked to get on the board early utilizing their first possession of the game. The Storm strung together 11 plays to go down the field as Rasheed Noel made a 15-yard run into the endzone. Kameron Van Prooyen made the extra point to put SNU up 7-0.

The Bulldogs (2-2, 2-2 GAC) looked for a response as they went right down the field on a 74-yard drive. A 5-yard run from SWOSU put them in the endzone to tie the score 7-7 with 4:34 left to play in the first quarter.

Southwestern forced a quick three and out in the Storm's first possession of the second quarter to get the ball back. A 48-yard punt from Adam Atwell put the Bulldogs on their own 26-yard line to start their drive.

Another 74-yard drive from SWOSU was all it took for them to double their score and take the lead over SNU, 14-7 with 10:33 left to play in the half.

The Southwestern defense shut down the Crimson Storm once again to take over on offense. The SNU defense held the Bulldogs to the SNU5 after a Carter Brock tackle for a loss of one yard forced SWOSU to kick a field goal to push their lead to 17-7.

A few drives later the Storm made their way to the SWOSU22 as Van Prooyen sank a 39 yard field goal to make the score 17-10 with 22 seconds left before the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the defenses turned it up a notch keeping the score at 17-10 going into the fourth quarter.

The Storm utilized their first drive of the final quarter. Bryson Evans led SNU down the field as he found Donavaughn Hill and Kolbe Branch. Carlos Zepeda then made a 1-yard run into the endzone to put the Crimson Storm back on the board. Another extra point from Van Prooyen tied the score at 17 all with 10:13 left to play.

The Bulldogs continued to have a response, as they used their next possession to make a 65-yard drive to score once again to take the lead 24-17.

The Crimson Storm offense looked to tie up the score, but both teams turned up the defense. The Bulldogs made it difficult for the SNU offense on their last possession running out the clock to claim the 24-17 victory over SNU.
