Crimson Storm Swept in Conference Opener

Storm fall in three sets to the Rangers in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted Northwestern Oklahoma State for their first Great American Conference match of the season. The Rangers were able to trip up the Storm and take the 3-0 sweep inside the Sawyer Center.

The Storm (3-9, 0-1 GAC) got on the board first after a kill from Riley Richardson. The two squads went back and forth before a 4-0 run from the Rangers (8-5, 2-0 GAC) allowed them to jump out in front.

A kill from Whitney Bowie put SNU within two, but another small run from Northwestern proved costly for the Storm as the Rangers continued to extend their lead.

SNU did not back down as Bowie and Emma Grace Moddelmog teamed up for a pair of kills to keep the Storm within two. Another 4-0 run for the Rangers pushed them ahead once again, making it difficult for an SNU comeback.

The Rangers hit set point, but a NWOSU error and another Bowie kill gave the Storm some momentum trailing 24-20. Northwestern powered down one final kill to claim the first set 25-20.

The Crimson Storm took an early 6-4 lead after kills from Kate Wright and Tessa Henry got the Sawyer Center on their feet. The Rangers went on another costly run to take over the lead, 10-7.

NWOSU continued to pile on the kills and take advantage of numerous SNU errors to push their lead once more. The Rangers kept the pressure on the Storm as they took the second set, 25-18.

SNU looked to avoid the sweep as they powered down kills from Henry, Moddelmog, and Bowie to take an early lead. The Rangers went on yet another run to take the lead back, 11-8.

A few points later the Storm went on a run of their own to go ahead 16-15. SNU was in the driver's seat as they hit set point with a kill from Richardson. Northwestern went on their final run of the night stringing together six points to snatch the set, 26-24 from SNU, and the match, 3-0.
