Ichabods Hand the Storm Midweek Loss

SNU falls short in final conference contest against Washburn

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted the Washburn Ichabods for their final non-conference game at Feland Field this season. The Washburn offense proved to be lethal as they took the 13-3 victory over SNU.

The Ichabods (26-19, 18-12 MIAA) and the Storm (12-35, 6-24 GAC) met for the first time in history as they clashed for the final non-conference contest of the season. Washburn was able to find a groove offensively, propelling them past the Storm.

The Ichabods got on the board early as they plated one in the first inning on a single through the left side. Starting pitcher, Oliver Wilson, was able to work out the jam as he recorded the final out of the inning.

The bats stayed hot for Washburn as they brought two in on a double in the left-center gap and a single to left to stretch their lead to 3-0. Jacob Martinez got the offense going for Southern Nazarene as he hit a two-run shot deep to put the Storm within one.

Parker Presley checked into the contest in relief for Wilson as he quickly retired the first two batters he faced. Washburn was able to rally with two outs as they blasted a long ball of their own to plate two a lead of 5-3. They did not stop there as they sent another one over the fence to plate two more to extend their lead.

Jacob Tison took the mound next for the Storm as he handed Washburn a scoreless frame to begin the fifth. SNU was able to get a run back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI single from Chance Bufford.

The Washburn bats came back to life in the sixth inning as they tacked on three more runs to lead 10-3 forcing another SNU pitching change. Tyler Reed came in for relief, but the Icahbods were unphased as they sent their third long ball over the fence to extend their lead to nine.

The Storm offense struggled to find a response as Washburn continued to hand them scoreless frames. Will DesHotels took over on the mound handling the Ichabods with ease as he handed them a scoreless inning to avoid a run-rule in the seventh inning.

A response was needed from the SNU offense in order to keep the game alive, but the Storm struggled to string hits together. Washburn went on to plate two more runs to jump ahead 14-3 putting them in run-rule territory.

With just three outs remaining to keep the game alive, SNU was unable to answer as the Ichabods claimed the final 14-3 run-rule victory in Bethany.
