SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hit the road for their final games of the season as they took on rival Oklahoma Baptist. The Bison's hot offense exploded against SNU to claim the series sweep in Shawnee brining the Storm's season to a close.
Game 1
A hot OBU (31-18, 18-15 GAC) offense that seemed nearly unstoppable cruised past the Storm(12-38, 6-27 GAC) to grab the first game of the series in Shawnee.Â
The Bison found their spark in the second inning after back-to-back home runs gave them a 2-0 lead. The Storm was able to get one of those back after a
Jacob Martinez double plated one to cut the deficit in half.Â
Oklahoma Baptist kept their foot on the gas as they tacked on four more runs in the third as well as forcing an SNU pitching change. OBU tacked on another run in the fourth pushing their lead 6-1.Â
Martinez continued his success at the plate for SNU as he tripled, sending
Blake Brinkmeyer across home to trail by just four runs. OBU exploded for a sixth run inning in response to extend their lead once more, but this time to 10.Â
Chance Bufford helped the Storm chip away at the OBU lead with a solo shot over the left field wall. Oklahoma Baptist continued to swing it well as they hit two more home runs and singled up the middle to plate three in the bottom of the sixth.
The Storm was down to their final three outs as they looked to avoid a run-rule. The Bison were able to quickly retire the side to claim the 17-3 victory over SNU.
Game 2
The Bison picked up right where they left off to begin game two. They posted a four-run inning in the first thanks to three home runs. The Storm was able to handle the Bison handing them a scoreless frame in the second.
OBU was able to tack on two more in the third thanks to their third home run of the contest. SNU was able to respond in the fifth as
Sebastian Figga sent one deep to cut the Bison's lead 6-1.Â
Three more runs were brought home for Oklahoma Baptist in the sixth stretching their lead once more to 9-1. The Storm was once again down to their final three outs and looked for a comeback that seemed difficult.
Alex Leon singled up the middle to plate one run, but that was all the offense SNU could come up with as they fell to OBU 9-2 in game two of the series.
Game 3
The series finale proved to be the same as the previous games in the series. A hefty seven-run first inning for the Bison proved to be costly for SNU as they struggled to find any sort of a comeback.Â
Oklahoma Baptist continued the scoring frenzy in the second inning as they tacked on another run on a solo shot over the left field wall. The Storm handed them a scoreless frame in the third, but they grabbed another run in the fourth off of another solo shot to lead 9-0.
Both squads were quiet offensively in the fifth and sixth innings of play.
Colby Entwistle got the Storm on the board in the seventh as he doubled over the centerfielder's head. This put SNU within eight going into the bottom half of the inning.
OBU looked to string a few hits together to end the contest in a run rule, and they did just that. A walk-off grand slam would secure the run-rule 13-3 victory for the Bison as they finished off the Storm to claim the series sweep.
The Storm's season came to a close following the series against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee. Southern Nazarene will look to grow and build off of this season as they look to the 2025 season.
