Tigers Take All Three Over Storm

Southern Nazarene Baseball fall short on the road to Ouachita Baptist

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Crimson Storm hit the road for their last trip to Arkansas this season as they met up with the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist. The Storm looked to get back into the win column, but the Tigers had other plans as they took the series sweep in Arkadelphia.

Game 1

The Tigers (28-18, 18-12 GAC) used their early lead to their advantage as they cruised past SNU (12-34, 6-24 GAC) to claim game one of the series.
It did not take long before the Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the first on a sac fly to take the 1-0 lead. They tacked on another run in the second thanks to a single that dropped into right field.

Starting pitcher Levi Graham then settled in handing Ouachita two scoreless frames. The Storm bats stayed quiet as they looked to string together some hits.

The Ouachita offense came back to life in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs to stretch their lead to 5-0. Gabriel Snachez then took over for Graham on the mound as he attempted to work out of the jam. OBU would then go on to plate one more run on a sac fly to extend their lead to six runs after five innings of play.

Tiger starter Chase Oberle continued to make this tough at the plate for the Storm as he worked into the sixth inning. The OBU offense had their fire going as they blasted a two-run home run to take an 8-0 lead.

That would be where the scoring stopped as both squads struggled to plate another run. The Tigers then claimed the 8-0 victory over SNU to take game one of the series.

Game 2

Southern Nazarene looked to even the series with the Tigers as Patrick Hine got the go-ahead on the mound.

The contest looked to be the opposite of the first as the game turned into a pitcher's duel from the first pitch. Hine did not make things easy for the Ouachita hitters as he held them scoreless through four innings of work.

The Storm was able to get on the board first as Blake Brinkmeyer hit a sac fly to score Jacob Reid. That would be all the Tigers would allow as they went to work at the plate next.
OBU responded quickly with back-to-back home runs to give them a 2-1 lead. The Storm then made a pitching change as Landon Kinder took over for Hine.

The Tigers continued to swing it as they tacked on another run thanks to a double in the left-center gap. Kinder then recorded the final out to turn over the inning.
Ouachita continued to add fuel to their fire as they brought home two more runs on a single through the right side to extend their lead to five.

The Storm was down to their final three outs as they looked to keep the contest going. Brinkmeyer was able to chip away at the OBU lead with a two-out double down the right field line to score Chance Bufford to cut the deficit to four.

That would be the end of the SNU comeback as Ouachita recorded the final out to claim the 6-2 victory and the series.

Game 3

The Storm looked to avoid the series road sweep as Trey Orman took the mound for the final game of the series. SNU struck first as Chase Hudson doubled in the right-center gap to plate one for the 1-0 lead in the second.

Orman continued to keep the OBU hitters off balance at the plate handing them two scoreless frames to begin the contest. They changed that narrative in the third as they plated three to grab back the lead.

Southern Nazarene was able to get one run back in the top of the fifth on a sac fly from Colby Entwistle to put the Storm within one. Orman settled back in on the mound handing OBU another scoreless frame to keep the score at 3-2.

Orman then took matters into his own hands at the plate as he sent a three-run blast to left center to give SNU the 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth.
Gunner Phillips then took the mound for SNU in relief of Oramn as he quickly sat down the Tiger hitters.

OBU was able to push two runs across on a double and a single to tie up the score at five all going into the eighth inning. The Tigers then retired the side to turn over the inning. OBU was able to string together some hits and tack on another run to steal back the lead, 6-5.

SNU was down to their final three outs either to tie the score or take back their lead. The Tigers quickly retired the first two Storm hitters via strikeout, but Oliver Wilson walked, putting the tying run aboard.

Entwistle followed with a single that dropped into left to put two runners aboard. That would be all the offense the Storm would produce as the Tigers recorded the final out to claim the series sweep and the 6-5 victory.
