Henderson State Offense Overpowers the Storm

SNU fall to the Reddies as they claim the series sweep in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted Henderson State for a three-game Great American Conference series at Feland Field. The Reddies handled the Storm as they claimed the series sweep in Bethany.

Game 1

The Reddies (22-19, 16-11 GAC) wasted no time jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Storm (12-30, 6-21 GAC) was able to answer with one run thanks to an RBI single from Jacob Martinez. Starting pitcher Levi Graham settled in keeping Henderson State off the board for his three remaining innings of work.

HSU plated two more in the fifth to stretch their lead 5-1. They kept the scoring going in the sixth and seventh innings extending their lead to seven runs. SNU got two runs back in the seventh on a single from Weston Hicks and a sac fly from Trey Orman to trail the Reddies 8-3.

Henderson kept their foot on the gas as they posted a three-run inning in the eighth to stretch their lead once more. SNU did not go away as they plated two runs on back-to-back bases-loaded walks.

The Reddies halted any chance at a comeback for the Storm as they exploded for an 11-run ninth inning to lead 22-5 going into the bottom half of the inning. The Reddies were able to retire the side quickly and claim a hefty 22-5 series-opening win over SNU.

Game 2

HSU picked up right where they left off in game one as they tacked on six runs throughout the first four innings. The Reddies continued to dominate the Storm on the mound through the first three innings as well. SNU found their way onto the scoreboard after a bases-loaded walk plated one run.

The bats stayed hot for the Reddies as they plated two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead 8-1. The Storm tacked on a run in the bottom half of the sixth on a Colby Entwistle single to right field.

The Reddies continued to have a response for every SNU run as they blasted a seven-run seventh inning to threaten a run-rule victory over the Storm. Southern Nazarene was down to their final three outs to keep their hopes alive.

HSU grabbed two quick first outs then loaded the bases and the Storm snagged a run after a bases-loaded hit by pitch. The Reddies then recorded the final out to claim the 15-3 run rule over SNU to claim the series win.

Game 3

The Crimson Storm looked to avoid the sweep, but a hot-hitting Reddies squad made that nearly impossible. A solo blast from HSU gave them an early 1-0 lead to begin the contest. The Storm responded quickly to tie the score thanks to an RBI from Martinez.

The Reddies tacked on five runs in the top of the second thanks to a grand slam and an RBI single through the right side. The Storm used back-to-back doubles from Oliver Wilson and Entwistle to trail 6-4.

Another home run and RBI single pushed Henderson's lead once again. SNU continued to chip away as Tanner Bare singled to plate one run to cut the deficit to three.

A four-run fourth inning for the Reddies allowed them to run with their lead even more as they blasted three home runs to lead 12-5. Southern Nazarene plated one run in response on a Martinez single up the middle.

That would be all the offense from both squads as they both posted scoreless final innings of play. The Reddies were able to claim the 12-6 victory which earned them a series sweep over Southern Nazarene in Bethany.
