TOPEKA, Kans. — Southern Nazarene headed North to Kansas last weekend for the Washburn Open across Friday and Saturday. Aside from SNU's multiple noteworthy performances, sophomore Abriel Thrash left a lasting mark in Kansas, not only breaking her previous SNU Pentathlon record by a final score of 3625, but also becoming an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the process.
Southern Nazarene's Heptathlon competitor Brendan Cravens finished 21st overall, but had an excellent placing in the 1000m run, finishing 10th with a time of 2:54.37.
The men had more standout times and finishes, starting with Patrick Uzzle's top-20 finish in the Long Jump, placing 17th at 6.69m. Kielon McQuarters also posted top-20 in the High Jump on Friday, placing 11th with a 1.85m jump.
The men's Distance Medley featuring Kayden Chaparro, Keith Howerton, Austin Miller, and William Ramirez finished 15th overall with a total time of 10:52.63.
The women also had a few standout finishes alongside Thrash, the first being Cheyenne Guymon who nearly broke into the top-20 with her 23rd placing in the 60m Hurdle Prelims with a time of 10.23. Tiffany Watson also nearly finished within the top-20 as well in the 600 yard run, but snatched 29th with a time of 1:43.15.
Elora Jones took the Storm lead in the mile run, finishing 30th with a time of 5:32.33. Jones was also featured in the Women's Distance Medley, alongside Isabel Lynch, Chloe Brumage, and Lauryn Downs, who all competed to an 11th place finish with a final time of 14:26.00.
