Crimson Storm Downs the Muleriders

Crimson Storm takes down Southern Arkansas in Bethany, 81-67

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to the Sawyer Center to host the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas for a Thursday Great American Conference matchup. The Storm dominated on both sides of the ball to claim their second GAC win in a row, 81-67.

The Southern Nazarene (5-1, 2-0 GAC) offense shined, shooting 50% from the field to go alongside another outstanding defensive performance in Bethany.

It was all Crimson Storm in the first half as SNU shot 53% from the field. The Muleriders (3-4, 0-1 GAC) snagged an early 8-3 lead, but a jumper from Jeremy Golson and a three from Stevie Strong tied the score at eight a piece. The two squads battled from there but a three from Baron Bracey and a few free throws pushed the Storm in front 21-12.

The SNU offense continued to roll as Bam Johnson tacked on a layup and a three to extend the Storm lead. Strong continued to lead the Crimson Storm as he knocked down a three and a jumper to put SNU in front 43-28. Southern Arkansas was able to sneak in two last minute buckets before the buzzer as they trailed the Storm 43-33.

The Crimson Storm continued their dominance into the second half as Bracey and Golson teamed up for a handful of buckets pushing the SNU lead to 50-37. The Storm continued to put the pressure on the SAU defense as Johnson took advantage of a fastbreak to collect a bucket extending the SNU lead once more.

The shot continued to fall for the Crimson Storm as Colby Henderson knocked down a three to give the Storm a comfortable 72-55 lead with 6:16 left to play. Tracy Godfrey Jr. tacked on a few free throws to push the SNU lead to 20 with just under two minutes left to play. The Muleriders were able to get in a few last minute shots, but the Storm was able to secure the 81-67 victory in Bethany.
