Storm Roll to 88-51 Win in Conference Opener

Southern Nazarene dominates Arkansas-Monticello from start to finish in impressive victory

BETHANY, Okla.- Southern Nazarene came out strong in their first conference game, dominating Arkansas-Monticello for a 88-51 victory in the Sawyer Center.

Southern Nazarene's (4-3, 1-0 GAC) Hannah Giddey wasted no time getting on the board with a smooth layup and free throws, setting the tone early. By the end of the first quarter, the Storm had a big 24-8 lead, leaving the Blossoms  (5-1, 0-1 GAC) struggling to keep up. Arkansas-Monticello's Haleigh Crews kept the Blossoms in it early, scoring consistently with some key layups, but it was clear SNU was in control.

The Storm kept the pressure on in the second quarter. Carley Gasaway hit a three pointer off an assist from Giddey, and the defense continued to lock down. Giddey added another layup, helping SNU maintain a 48-23 lead going into halftime. It was a great night for Giddey as she hit her 1,000th career point, adding another big moment to her already impressive game. With a double double under her belt, she was unstoppable.

The third quarter was all Storm. Katie King grabbed a steal for a turnover from UAM's Haleigh Crews and turned it into an easy jumper, while Umi Otsuka kept the scoring going as well. The Storm ended the quarter with a comfortable 75-35 lead.

In the final quarter, Otsuka drove to the basket for two more points, and Braci Nyberg added a layup to cap off the win. Arkansas-Monticello hit a few late shots, with Crews finishing with 12 points and Bailey Harris contributing as well, but the Storm remained in control throughout the final minutes of the contest.

Southern Nazarene secured their first conference victory with an 88-51 win over Arkansas-Monticello.
