Storm Defense Shines in Victory Over UAM

The Crimson Storm take down Arkansas-Monticello to claim first GAC victory of the season

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello for their Great American Conference opener. It was a defensive battle early, but a burst of offense from the Crimson Storm lifted them to a 67-44 victory over UAM.

The defense shined for SNU (4-1, 1-0 GAC)  as they kicked off their GAC slate. With an outstanding 46 boards and seven blocks, it was no secret the Crimson Storm defense played a big role in their success against Arkansas-Monticello (3-4, 0-1 GAC).

It was a defensive first half as the Weevils got on the board first with a three point shot. A few free throw makes from James Burries and a three ball from Jeremy Golson gave the Crimson Storm their first lead of the game.

The Weevils continued to chip away at the SNU lead before a layup and three-pointer put them in front. UAM maintained their lead, but a dunk from Burries gave the Storm some momentum and cut the deficit to three.

The offense was quiet from there as the next four minutes were scoreless before Baron Bracey tacked on a bucket to put SNU within one. The Crimson Storm took over in the final two minutes of the first half going on a 7-0 run to take a 25-21 lead at the break.

The Crimson Storm found its offensive spark to begin the second half going on a 17-0 run capped off by a three from Bam Johnson. SNU did not let up as they continued to pour in the points including another three from Golson.

The Weevils continued to string points together but struggled to make a dent in the SNU lead. A handful of free throws and a three from Xavier Ridenour pushed the SNU lead to 63-41 with 4:03 left on the clock. The Crimson Storm was able to maintain their lead, capturing a strong 67-44 victory over Arkansas-Monticello to begin their GAC schedule.
