Crimson Storm Take Down the Savage Storm in Durant

Crimson Storm finish off their 2024 slate in Durant with an 87-81 victory

DURANT, Okla. - Southern Nazarene headed south for their final contest of 2024. The Crimson Storm picked up their fifth straight GAC victory, taking down Southeastern Oklahoma State 87-81.

Bam Johnson and Baron Bracey facilitated the SNU (8-1, 5-0 GAC) offense, as Johnson posted 22 points and Bracey notched 20 points, respectively. The guard duo helped the Crimson Storm move past the Savage Storm (3-8, 1-4 GAC) in Durant Thursday evening.

The Savage Storm got on the board first with an early trip to the foul line, collecting two quick points. James Burries responded with a bucket from beyond the arc to put SNU in front 3-2. SE responded, but back-to-back shots from Johnson and Colby Henderson extended the Crimson Storm lead.

SNU went on to tack on a handful of points in the paint as Burries and Timur Krupalija teamed up to extend the SNU lead once again. Jeremy Golson got in on the scoring knocking down a three to put the Crimson Storm in front 19-10. A few more points in the paint and a three from Bracey gave the Storm a five-point lead with 3:33 left to play in the first half.

Golson made a late trip to the charity stripe knocking down all three shots he was awarded to put SNU in front 33-25. The Savage Storm was able to string a few points together but Krupalija responded with a jumper before SE got in one final shot to trail SNU, 35-32 at the break.

Golson kept the SNU offense going with a three to begin the second half. Johnson took over from there with a pair of buckets in the paint and three to put the Crimson Storm in front 45-37. The Savage Storm continued to hang around, but Bracey laid one in before Burries knocked down another three to push the SNU lead back to nine.

The two squads continued to trade points, but a three from SE cut the deficit to just four. Xavier Ridenour knocked down a jumper to spark a 7-0 run for Southern Nazarene to stretch the lead back to nine. Bracey and Johnson continued to dominate putting up a few more shots in the paint to help maintain the SNU lead.

A few Crimson Storm turnovers proved costly as SE cut the SNU lead to five. Henderson then made back-to-back trips to the foul line taking advantage of the shots he was awarded to give the Crimson Storm an 83-76 lead with 57 seconds left on the clock. The Crimson Storm finished the contest off at the charity stripe, knocking down a few more shots to secure the 87-81 victory in Durant.
