Crimson Storm Win Battle With the Bulldogs

SNU takes down Southwestern Oklahoma State in a physical battle, 61-53

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to the Sawyer Center to take on the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State. In a physical battle, the Crimson Storm was able to collect their fourth straight GAC win, 61-53, over SWOSU.

The Storm (7-1, 4-0 GAC) was able to knock down the shots when they counted, utilizing 41 free throw attempts and knocking down 28 of those to help lift them to a gritty victory over the Bulldogs (5-3,2-1 GAC).

Baron Bracey set the tone for the Storm early, laying in the first bucket of the contest. James Burries followed with a three-ball to give SNU an early 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs were able to tie the score, but a dunk from Timur Krupalija put the Crimson Storm back in front.

A handful of free throws and a bucket from Colby Henderson pushed the Storm ahead, 17-13. Tracy Godfrey Jr. and Burries teamed up for four points from the charity stripe with just 45 seconds left to play in the first half. Godfrey Jr. tacked on one final bucket before the clock ran down giving the Storm a 23-26 lead at the break.

Bracey set the tone once again to begin the second half as he knocked down a shot from beyond the arc. Godfrey Jr. and Bam Johnson knocked down a handful of free throws. SWOSU continued to knock down shots of their own but were unable to tie it up. Bracey kept the offensive momentum going with another three to extend the SNU lead to 34-26.

SWOSU found a response going on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to one. Krupalija pushed the Storm ahead once again with a pair of layups in the paint. A fastbreak bucket for the Bulldogs gave them a one point lead, but a handful of free throw makes from Bracey put the Storm back in front by two.

Bracey and Krupalija went to work in the paint, adding on to the SNU score. A layup from Burries and a few more free throws from Johnson maintained the Crimson Storm lead with 1:18 left to play. SNU then took turns at the foul line in the final seconds of the contest knocking down shot after shot making it impossible for a Bulldog comeback. Bracey knocked down the final shot from the charity stripe before the clock ran down giving the Storm the 61-53 victory in Bethany.
