Storm Come Up Short Against Oklahoma Baptist

SNU falls in four sets to Oklahoma Baptist in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to the Sawyer Center to host the Oklahoma Baptist. The Storm struggled to find their groove as the Bison took a 3-1 victory in Bethany.

The Bison (15-11, 9-5 GAC) put together a handful of kills to take an early 5-2 lead to begin set one. From there OBU went on a 5-1 run to extend their lead. The Crimson Storm (9-18, 5-9 GAC) responded with a 5-0 run to tie the score thanks to kills from Whitey Bowie and Tatum Smith.

The squads went back and forth until a small run from the Bison put them in front 17-13. The Storm continued to hang around as Kate Wright powered down a kill and a service ace to keep SNU within two. OBU took control of the match going on an 8-2 run to take set one, 25-17.

Oklahoma Baptist collected the first points of the second set before kills from Riley Richardson and Wright tied the score at 2-2. The duo then teamed up again for a pair of kills to give SNU a one point lead. The Bison responded with a 5-0 lead to take the lead, 9-5.

The Bison continued to tack on the point, extending their lead with another run. Emma Grace Moddelmog gave the Storm some momentum after she delivered a kill and a service ace. SNU continued to chip away as Isabella Labrada made her return notching three kills to cut the deficit to six.

Bowie and Rayanna Mauldin tacked on a few kills to go alongside an ace from Megan Branson to continue the Crimson Storm rally. An SNU attack error gave the Bison set point as they collected the final kill they needed to secure the second set, 25-19.

The two squads went back and forth to begin set three before the Storm took over with an 8-1 run. The Bison were able to put together a run of their own cutting the SNU lead to 15-14. A kill from Mauldin gave the Crimson Storm a spark as Moddelmog and Bowie contributed to a small run.

It was all SNU from there as Bowie notched the kill needed to give the Storm set point. OBU was able to grab a few last minute points before Wright powered down the final kill to give SNU the third set, 25-21.

Southern Nazarene kept their momentum going into set four taking an early 4-1 lead. The Bison then used a 6-0 run to jump in front, 7-4. From there OBU took over putting together a handful of small runs to lead 18-9.

The Crimson Storm struggled to find a response as OBU took advantage of an SNU error to get to match point. The Bison came up strong with one final block to secure the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-1.
