Crimson Storm Drop Heartbreaker to Savage Storm

Southeastern claims 3-2 victory over SNU in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm played their final game in the Sawyer Center for the 2024 season as they hosted the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State. It was all Crimson Storm early on, but Southeastern took down SNU in a heartbreaker, 3-2.

The Crimson Storm (9-19,5-10 GAC) got on the board first taking advantage of an SE (13-14,8-7 GAC) error. The two squads went back and forth from there before Whitney Bowie powered down two kills to go alongside another Savage Storm error to give SNU a 10-7 lead.

Southern Nazarene continued to pour in the kills as Kate Wright and Rayanna Mauldin collected one apiece. The Savage Storm continued to hang around tying the score up at 16 all. A 4-0 run from SNU highlighted by a few more Bowie kills pushed the Crimson Storm's lead to four.

Southeastern chipped away tying the score again this time at 21-21. Bowie and Wright responded teaming up for a pair of kills. Wright then notched a kill to give SNU set point, 24-23. A Savage Storm attack error allowed Southern Nazarene to take set one, 25-23.

The Crimson Storm picked up right where they left off jumping out to a 6-2 lead to begin set two. That lead did not last long as SE put together a 5-0 run to take the lead. The two went back and forth from there until a 6-0 from the Crimson Storm pushed their lead to six.

The Savage Storm continued to battle, but Mauldin and Wright teamed up for the final three kills needed for SNU to take set two, 25-21.

Southern Nazarene controlled set three early with an 8-5 lead. Mauldin and Wright continued to tack on the kills extending the SNU lead 13-9. Once again SE put together a run to take the lead 18-17. The Crimson Storm was unphased as Wright and Isabella Labrada notched a pair of kills to put  SNU back in front by one.

Southeastern responded, snatching the sweep from Southern Nazarene going on a 5-0 run to take the third set, 25-21.

The Savage Storm took control of set four early with a 9-6 lead. Labrada and Wright powered down a few kills to put SNU within one. A 5-0 run from Southeastern stretched their lead as they continued their momentum into the next handful of points. A Crimson Storm attack error gave SE set point and one final kill gave them set four, 25-17.

Southeastern took another early lead to begin set five in front 5-1. Mauldin powered down a kill of her own, but the Savage Storm continued to tack on the points. A few SE errors and another kill from Mauldin cut the Savage Storm lead to 8-6. The Crimson Storm then tied the score at 9-9 after a kill from Wright and a few SE errors.

The Savage Storm made another 5-0 to give them match point at 14-9. Wright delivered a kill for SNU to keep them alive, but Southeastern notched one final kill to claim the reverse sweep over Southern Nazarene, 3-2 in Bethany.
