Crimson Storm Earn Comeback Victory Over Northeastern State

Southern Nazarene battles from behind to claim first win of the 2024-2025 season

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm opened up their 2024-2025 season inside the Sawyer Center as they hosted the Riverhawks of Northeastern State. It was an uphill battle for the Storm early on, but no task was too tall as they captured their first victory of the season, 71-66, over NSU.

The Northeastern State (2-2, 0-0 MIAA) offense was electric in the first half shooting 53.33% from three-point range. The Crimson Storm (1-0, 0-0 GAC) was able to flip the script in the second half, locking down their defense to hold the Riverhawks to just 14.29% from beyond the arc to come away on top.

The Riverhawks dominated the first half jumping out to a quick 11-4 lead. The Crimson Storm struggled to stop the NSU offense as they managed a 10-0 run to stretch their lead to 21-6.

Baron Bracey was able to find some offense for the Storm, knocking down a three ball to give SNU some offensive momentum. From there SNU began to rally as they slowly chipped away at the Riverhawks' lead. Jeremy Golson then buried a long ball of his own to keep the scoring coming for the Storm. SNU then made a few trips to the charity stripe once again tacking on a few points at a time. Northeastern was able to maintain their lead going into the break up 37-27.

The Crimson Storm came out firing to begin the second half, as Bracey got the scoring going followed by another Golson three to cut the deficit to five. Bracey continued to shine, knocking down his second three of the evening to put the Storm within two. The Riverhawks continued to hold their lead, but Golson dropped another three cutting the NSU lead to 41-38.

Northeastern continued to pour in the points to hold off the Storm, but a dunk from Timur Krupalija got the Sawyer Center on their feet giving SNU some more momentum. Golson continued to shoot lights out adding another three to his stat sheet cutting the deficit to two once again.

Stevie Strong notched a clutch bucket tying the score for the first time in the contest, 52-52. A few free throws allowed NSU to take back the lead, but Southern Nazarene continued to battle. Back-to-back layups from Krupalija put the Storm back in front, 56-54. Golson went to work again collecting two free throws and three balls to continue to push the SNU lead.

Northeastern began to attempt a comeback, but the Crimson Storm knocked down a few more free throws as the clock slowly ran down securing their season opening victory, 71-66.

Golson led the Crimson Storm offense with a 25-point night highlighted by his 6-8 from three-point range performance. Bracey also made some noise for the SNU offense notching 17 points.
