Storm's Season Ends in Ada

The Crimson Storm fall 3-1 to East Central to close their 2024 season

ADA, Okla. - The Crimson Storm traveled to Ada to take on the Tigers of East Central to determine their postseason fate. It was an unfortunate outcome for the Storm as East Central took the match 3-1, ending the 2024 season for SNU.

The Crimson Storm (9-20, 5-11 GAC) tabbed the first points of the match after a kill from Whitney Bowie and an ECU attack error. The Tigers (7-13, 11-5 GAC) then responded with a small run to take over the lead.

Emma Grace Moddelmog tied the score at 12-12, after powering down a kill and notching back-to-back service aces. The Crimson Storm continued to tack on the kills as Isabella Labrada and Bowie teamed up to put SNU in front 16-15.

The two squads took turns going on little runs, but SNUs proved to be more lethal after a kill from Tynna Mojica gave the Storm set point. Kate Wright tacked on the kill to give SNU set one, 25-22.

Both squads traded points until ECU took advantage of a handful of Crimson Storm errors to take the lead. The Tigers pieced together another run to stretch their lead, 15-8. The Storm began to chip away as Labrada and Bowie teamed up again for another pair of kills. Moddelmog also notched another ace, putting the Storm within four.

The Tigers held their lead, but a kill from Tessa Henry and a few East Central errors cut the deficit to just one. SNU attempted the comeback, but ECU powered down back-to-back kills to take set two, 25-2.

Set three proved to be another battle, but Rayanna Mauldin and Bowie notched a kill to give  SNU an early lead, 7-5. Mauldin continued to rack up the kills as Emma Ringer added an ace to the SNU stat sheet, pushing the Storm lead ahead once more.

A few kills from Wright and an ECU error extended the Storm lead to four, but the Tigers responded with a 4-0 run to tie it up at 18 all. East Central kept their momentum going with a 6-1 run to capture set point.

SNU notched a few more points to stay alive, but the Tigers ultimately took set three, 25-22.

The Crimson Storm looked to keep their season alive and even the match. SNU took an early 8-4 lead to open up set four. East Central continued to chip away, cutting the Storm lead to one. They kept their foot on the gas pulling ahead 21-19.

Back-to-back kills from Wright tied the score up at 21 apiece. The two teams went point for point, but the Tigers were the first to 24. ECU powered down one final kill to take the set 25-23 and the match, 3-1.

The Crimson Storm will now set their sights on the 2025 season after their 2024 run comes to an end.
