Storm Earn Homecoming Victory Over the Weevils

Crimson Storm earn their second victory in a row defeating UAM

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to the SNU Football Stadium one final time for the 2024 season. It was a senior day and homecoming celebration as SNU grabbed their second victory in a row taking down the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello.

The Crimson Storm (2-8, 2-8 GAC) set the tone quickly, stopping a drive from the Weevils (4-6, 4-6 GAC) thanks to an interception in the endzone from Jalen Easley. The Storm took over from there putting together just three plays for 80 yards. Bryson Evans connected with Dalen Smith as he found the endzone putting SNU on the board. Kameron Van Prooyen notched the extra point giving the Storm an early 7-0 lead. The Weevils responded at the end of the first quarter as they put together a 12-play drive to tie the score at 7-7.

The second quarter was all Crimson Storm as SNU began their drive at 5:04 on the clock. A 52-yard drive put the Storm in the endzone once again as Kaden Manuel made a three-yard run to put SNU back in front, 7-14.

The Storm defense went to work stopping the UAM offense to force a punt. Dezmond Willams gave the Crimson Storm good field position after his 21-yard punt return. The SNU offense put together a 43-yard drive to get in field goal range with the clock winding down. Van Prooyen nailed the 19-yard field goal to give the Crimson Storm a 17-7 lead going into the halftime break.

Monticello cut the SNU lead with their first drive of the third quarter as they used a 55 yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to just three. It was a defensive battle the rest of the third quarter as neither team scored again going into the fourth quarter.

SNU added to their lead to begin the final quarter of the contest. Carlos Zepeda capped off an 83-yard drive as he found the endzone pushing the Storm's lead to 24-14 after Van Prooyen's extra point. The Weevils were not going away that easily as they put together an eight-play drive to find the endzone cutting the SNU lead to 24-21.

The Crimson Storm defense went to work from there keeping the Weevils off the board as SNU walked away with their second victory of the season defeating UAM, 24-21 in Bethany.
