Strong Start Not Enough for the Storm

Crimson Storm fall to SWOSU in four sets in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm hosted the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs inside the Sawyer Center for a Monday night matchup. A hot start for the Storm was not enough as the Bulldogs took the match, 3-1.

The Bulldogs (8-6, 4-1 GAC) got on the board first, but a big time kill from Isabella Labrada got SNU (3-13, 0-5 GAC) on the board shortly after.

The two squads traded points from there before a SWOSU serving error and a kill from Molly Langford stretched the Storm's lead.

Another Bulldog error and a kill from Riley Richardson continued the momentum for Southern Nazarene. SWOSU continued to claw back after three straight kills to take the lead 15-14.

A kill from Kaylie Marshall sparked a run for SNU as they scored six straight points to go ahead 22-18.

Labrada and Richardson powered down a few more kills securing the first set victory for the Crimson Storm, 25-21.

The Bulldogs looked to even the match as they kicked off set two with a 4-0 run. A few errors from the Bulldogs and a kill from Tatum Smith put the Storm within one.

SNU then went on a quick 4-0 run to jump ahead by two. Southwestern responded once again to make the score nine all.

Another run from the Bulldogs proved costly for the Crimson Storm as SWOSU tacked on six straight points to take over the lead.

SWOSU took advantage of some SNU errors and powered down a handful of kills to claim set two, 25-18.

The momentum did not stop there for Southwestern as they took an early 8-1. The Bulldogs kept the pressure on the SNU defense as they continued to put balls away.

A few more errors for Southern Nazarene pushed the SWOSU lead, 12-4. Kills from Labrada, Tessa Henry, and Whitney Bowie put SNU within five.

Another Storm error and another kill for Southeastern stretched their lead back to seven. SNU looked for a comeback but came up short as the Bulldogs finished off with a 6-1 run to take set three, 25-16.

The two teams traded points once again to begin set four before another run for Southwestern gave them an 8-4 lead.

Kills from Bowie and Richardson kept SNU in the game, but the Bulldogs continued to put together small runs to maintain the lead.

A few more Storm kills to cut the deficit to just six, but once again SWOSU had a response. The Bulldogs powered down a handful of kills to take set four, 25-16, and the match, 3-1.
