Storm Stumble in Durant

Crimson Storm fall short against the Savage Storm on the road, 40-14

DURANT, Okla. - The Crimson Storm traveled south to take on the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm. The Savage Storm dominated offensively, taking down Southern Nazarene 40-14.

Southeastern (4-3, 4-3 GAC) utilized their first drive of the game putting together a 75-yard drive for 7 plays to get on the board first. The Savage Storm then went on to kick the extra point, but it was blocked by Carter Brock keeping the score at just 6-0.

The Crimson Storm (0-7, 0-7 GAC) were unable to find a response as SE forced a punt. The Savage Storm took over on the SNU50, putting together just two plays to find the endzone and lead 13-0 in the final minutes of the first quarter.

SNU was able to find some momentum getting down to the SE10. The Savage Storm then forced a turnover on downs as they took over at the SE11.

The Savage Storm marched down the field once again, putting together a 92-yard drive to stretch their lead to 20-0.  The Crimson Storm still struggled to find a response as SE forced a quick three-and-out on the following possession.

Southeastern was able to use the final minutes of the second quarter together 6 plays for an 83-yard drive to find the endzone once more stretching their lead to 27-0. SNU looked to respond again, but the SE defense forced a punt once again.

The Crimson Storm was able to stop another Southeastern drive forcing them into a 52-yard field goal attempt. The kick was no good, leaving the score at 27-0 going into the halftime break.

In their second drive of the third quarter, SNU took over on the SE44. Bryson Evans was able to find an open Dalen Smith for a 44-yard pass to get the Crimson Storm on the board. Kameron Van Prooyen made the extra point, making the score 27-7.

The Savage Storm continued to tack on the points as they responded with a 78-yard drive, pushing their lead to 34-7.

After each team was forced to punt, Dezmond Willams came up with SNU's biggest play of the day, returning a punt back for a touchdown. This marked SNU's first punt returned for a touchdown since 2007. Van Prooyen made the extra point to make the score 34-14 in the final seconds of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was full of defense as SNU stopped the Savage Storm on the SNU14 to force them to a 31-yard field goal attempt that was good, extending the Southeastern lead to 37-14. Southeastern was able to tack on a few more points after they made a 39-yard field goal to lead 40-14 in the final minutes of the contest. The Crimson Storm was unable to come up with a response as SE took the victory.

Next Up

The Crimson Storm will return home to host East Central on Saturday,  October 26. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm at the SNU Football Stadium. The last time these two squads met, SNU defeated the Tigers in Ada.
