Storm Fall In Final Minutes

The Crimson Storm come up short in final minutes against East Central

BETHANY, Okla. - The Crimson Storm returned to the SNU Football Stadium to host East Central for an afternoon GAC matchup. The Crimson Storm dominated early, but could not hang on as the Tigers came away with the late victory, 31-30.

Southern Nazarene (0-8, 0-8 GAC) got on the board first putting together a 14-play drive. Bryson Evans found the endzone on a quarterback keep to give SNU the first score of the day. The Crimson Storm picked up right where they left off in their next possession. Donald May took off, scoring a 55-yard touchdown to double the SNU score, 14-0, with just a few minutes left in the first quarter.

The Tigers (3-5, 3-5 GAC) finally got their offense going in the second quarter after they pieced together just seven plays to find the endzone. A 55-yard touchdown got them on the board cutting the deficit to seven. SNU then looked to respond, marching down the field to the ECU1. Unable to find the endzone, the Crimson Storm turned the ball over on downs.

The SNU defense went to work, as David Omosigho notched a safety to add two points to the Storm's score. Both defenses battled from there as the clock ran down in the first half, leaving the score at just 16-7 at the halftime break.

The Storm offense went to work to open up the second half as Evans tacked on his second touchdown of the game with a 1-yard run into the endzone. The extra point from Kameron Van Prooyen extended the SNU lead to 23-7.

The Tigers responded in their next possession with a 70-yard drive to get on the board in the second half to trail 23-14. ECU continued to chip away as they delivered a 40-yard touchdown to cut the SNU lead to three.

Evans and the Storm offense were unphased as they put together just two plays to find the endzone once again. Jarrell Farr came up with a catch for an 82-yard touchdown to extend the Southern Nazarene lead, 30-21, in the final minutes of the third quarter.

East Central was not done yet, as they went right back down the field to tack on another touchdown on a 69-yard drive to trail 30-28. The Crimson Storm looked to extend their lead getting all the way to the ECU26 before they had a turnover on downs with just a few minutes left in the contest. ECU was able to get in decent field goal range as they knocked down a 54-yard field to take the lead, 31-30.

With just seven seconds remaining on the clock, the Crimson Storm was going to have to move quickly in order to score. SNU was able to make anything happen as the clock hit zero, and the Tigers snagged the victory in Bethany, 31-30.

The Crimson Storm will travel to No. 8 Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, October 31 for an evening kickoff at 6:00 pm in Arkadelphia. SNU hosted the Tigers last season, but ultimately fell 49-28 to Ouachita.
