WICHITA, Kan. — Continuing their outdoor races for the 2022-2023 season, SNU Track & Field suited up for Wichita State's KT Woodman Classic, competing in a number of events spread out over Friday and Saturday of the Easter weekend.
Friday
Friday comprised of the the distance events in which both the SNU women and men posted exceptional times and placings against top-tier schools.
Senior Madalyn Harper headed the women in the 1500 meter run, placing 17th of 75 total runners. She nearly broke her personal record, finishing with a time of 4:46.52. Senior Sabbatha Taylor also stood out in the event, shattering her personal record with a new time of 5:03.14, good for a 27th placement. Sophomore Elora Jones also competed, running it in a time of 5:25.07 to finish in 58th place.
Sophomore Tiffany Watson led in the 800 meter run, finishing 36th and just a few seconds shy of her personal record, finishing the race at 2:39.70.
Sophomore William Ramirez led for the men in the 1500 run, placing 46th of 80 total runners while shaving seconds off his personal best with a new time of 4:11.84. Sophomore Joel Haynes was two spots behind him in 48th, also setting a personal best with a new time of 4:12.85. Jacob Humphrey was a few spots behind his teammates, coming in 58th with a time of 4:24.24 (PR).
Junior Dennis Green led in the 800 meter run, placing 41st with a time of 2:03.10.
Saturday
Senior Darrius Blackshire led the men in the 400 meter hurdles, placing 8th of 31 other runners with a time of 54.76.
Cedric Petties had a great showing in the 400 meter dash, finishing 37th of 86 runners with a time 50.75. His 400 time was just a few milliseconds shy of setting a new personal best. Petties also ran well in the 200 meter run, placing 48th of 97 runners with a time of 22.75, which did earn him a new personal best.
Calee Williams had an excellent placement in the 100 meter dash, finishing 36th of 92 total runners with a time of 11.01, a new personal record. Williams also showed out in the 200 meter run, finishing 50th in 22.80.
Sophomore Carissa Burns led the women's side with her 100 and 200 meter performances, finishing within the top-20 in both of he events. Burns had an impressive 9th place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time 12.28. She also finished 18th of 54 runners in the 200 with a time of 25.61.
Freshman Cynita Williams notched a 39th place finish in the 200, racing to a time of 27.47. Lyric Henry also finished inside the top-50 in the 200 meter run, coming in 46th at 28.36.
SNU's relay teams also represented, with the Men's 4x100 leading the way in 7th of 11 teams competing with a time of 42.59. The women's 4x400 noticed a 6th place finish of 10 total teams, running in a time of 4:09.86.
Southern Nazarene will be back in action at the Sooner Invitational Friday, April 14th in Norman, Oklahoma.
