Storm Fall By Walk-Off Single

Southeastern earns clutch 4-3 win by a walk-off single to open series

DURANT, Okla. — Continuing the fight for a GAC Tournament appearance, Southern Nazarene headed to Durant for another conference series, facing ninth place Southeastern Oklahoma State for the first of three games. The Crimson Storm (14-22, 6-16 GAC) were stunned in the final inning after being tied 3-3 for most of the game when the Savage Storm (18-18, 10-12 GAC) put up an RBI single for the 4-3 victory.

Weston Hicks got SNU off to a hot start with a three RBI homer in the first.

The Savage Storm countered in the second with advancements off an SNU error, scoring two to trail by a run heading into the third inning.

Both teams worked through three straight innings without a single run scored, until the Savage Storm tied the ballgame at three a piece off a single to right side.

The game resumed to action all coming from the bump with outs going back and forth between the sides, stalling the game at 3-3.

SNU had a chance to take back the lead in the eighth with two on base and just a single out, but a pickoff and two strikeouts retired the side. In the bottom half of the inning, the Savage Storm couldn't get anything going either, leaving the final inning up for SNU to change the momentum.

The Storm could not get the bats busy in the top of the ninth, leading to three quick outs and a chance for the Savage Storm to take control of the ballgame. Southeastern cracked out a huge triple to fill a base, giving them an edge. The Savage Storm stunned SNU with a walk-off single with two outs on the board, claiming the 4-3 opening game win.

SNU will have two more chances at Southeastern as they face off in a noon doubleheader Saturday, April 8th.
