Storm Drop Doubleheader

SNU falls in both games of the doubleheader to SEOSU to close the series

DURANT, Okla. — After falling in Game 1 of the series, Southern Nazarene suited up for a doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma State to close it out, falling by just a single run in both games (Game 1, 9-8; Game 2, 5-4).

The Savage Storm (20-18, 12-12 GAC) won all three games by walk-off home runs, something you do not see often. The Crimson Storm (14-24, 6-18 GAC) fought all the way until the end in all three contests, dropping each game by just one run.

Game 1

One of the GAC's most feared members at the plate, DJ Van Atten, opened up the scoring for SNU with a long shot over to left field for the 1-0 start.

That was the last of the scoring for the next four and a half innings until Chance Bufford's ground out plated Colby Entwistle, putting the Storm ahead 2-0.

Southeastern made it a one run game in the fifth after getting a walk with the bases loaded. The Savage Storm went on to tie the game in the same inning at two a piece off of a fly out to right field.

SNU came up big in the six inning with two home runs from Cole Embrey and Entwistle, combining for four runs and getting the Storm up to a 6-2 lead.

The Savage Storm put up a three RBI homer of their own in the bottom sixth, coming within one run of the Storm at 6-5. Southeastern took the lead in the seventh with a two RBI home run, putting them ahead 7-6.

Tyler Broyles' sacrifice bunt gave SNU a run in the 9th, tying the game again at 7-7. SNU were back in front after Dax Edmonds scored on a SEOSU fielding error.

The Savage Storm challenged SNU in the bottom ninth, scoring on a passed ball to tie the game at eight a piece. History repeated itself as they fired a walk-off homerun to call the game at 9-8, improving to 2-0 in the series.

Game 2

The second game was no different as both teams traded runs and went wire to wire till the final inning.

Van Atten continued to pack a punch at the plate, opening the scoring for SNU once more with a two-run shot to left field.

The Savage Storm quickly tied the game in the bottom half of the first with a two-run shot of their own, making it no easy task for SNU to gain a lead.

The squads battled through two innings of no runs until Southeastern reached a lead on an RBI fielder's choice. Colby Entwistle challenged the Savage Storm at the plate with a single through the left side that send Van Atten and Dax Edmonds home.

Southeastern could not be shaken, putting up a game-tying home run in the 6th inning.

Gridlocked at four a piece through the next inning and a half, the ballgame was forced into extra play. SNU put up a few hits to fill the bases in the top of the 8th, but could put a run on the board, leaving it up to SEOSU.

Southeastern called game with another walk-off home run, making that a walk-off win for them in each of the games inside the series. The Savage Storm improved to 3-0 over SNU with a final 5-4 win.

Southern Nazarene will remain on the road for another contest with SWOSU Tuesday, April 11th at 2:00 p.m. in Weatherford. The Storm fell in all three games against the Bulldogs last weekend when the two teams met.
