ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene Baseball headed to Arkansas for another GAC series, taking on Henderson State for a series-opening doubleheader. The Reddies (27-17, 16-10 GAC) took control in Game 1, exploding for eight runs in the sixth inning to force a run rule and a 14-3 victory. The Storm (14-27, 6-20 GAC) never gained any momentum in the second game, falling behind 8-0 to Henderson State to start the series 0-2.
Game 1
The Reddies jumped in front in the opening inning, cracking out a two-RBI home run for the 2-0 lead.
The Storm put up three singles in the second off the bats of Drake Irby, Cole Embrey, and Dax Edmonds, good for three RBIs and a 3-2 lead over Henderson State.
The Reddies tied it once more at three a piece in the third inning by a single to center field. From there, they scored three more runs in the next two innings, all off singles.
Henderson State took control the rest of the way, going on a scoring frenzy in the sixth inning. A few SNU errors and a huge Reddie triple was all Henderson State needed to flood the scoreboard, exploding for eight runs to grow their lead to 14-3.
Southern Nazarene could not erase the deficit in the seventh, taking the 14-3 loss to open the series.
Game 2
The Reddies picked up where they left off, dominating at the plate with six hits that powered eight total runs in Game 2.
Henderson State put up a four run opening inning, starting with a single and a double that brought in two RBIs. A wild pitch and a throwing error by SNU gave the Reddies two more runs, boosting them to an early 4-0 start.
Henderson's offense stalled until the fourth inning when a ground out earned them another run, putting them ahead 5-0.
SNU put up a few hits to try and shake up the Reddies, but the home team continued to tack on the runs, adding on three more in the sixth with a ground out and two singles. The Reddies' dominance earned them the 8-0 Game 2 win and a 2-0 Saturday.
The Storm will have one more shot at the Reddies Saturday, April 15th as they gear up for a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
