Sweeping the Tigers

Storm finish 3-0 in Ada after defeating the Tigers in Game 3, 12-5

ADA, Okla. — After going 2-0 against East Central in the series opening doubleheader, Southern Nazarene ended their time in Ada in style, defeating the Tigers for a third time with a final score of 12-5.

The Storm (9-9, 5-4 GAC) battled with the Tigers (5-14, 0-9 GAC) early in the first couple of innings, but SNU erased the chances of ECU getting their first conference win by outscoring ECU 10-5 in the final five innings.

East Central put a run on the board first in inning one, off of a ground that gave them the 1-0 start.

Both squads went scoreless in the second inning, but SNU finally put up a few runs, courtesy of a Tanner Bare walk that plated Carson Kinnaird and DJ Van Atten

The scoring continued for SNU in fifth as Colby Entwistle singled to send Van Atten home, now leading the Tigers 3-1. This sparked a string of runs for SNU in the sixth inning. A Dax Edmonds single kickstarted SNU's scoring as he talliec two RBIs by plating O'Shea Whiteside and Chance Bufford. Van Atten took advantage of a fielding error and pushed Cole Embrey across home for the 6-1 lead. SNU was able to pack on three more runs in the inning, courtesy of a Tyler Broyles double to left field that sent in Bare, Van Atten and Edmonds for the 9-1 lead.

The Tigers were able to cut the lead down to six off of an SNU error and a double, but the Storm quickly jumped to a nine-point advantage from another Van Atten double and a single by Kinnaird.

The Tigers where able to lessen the damage in the seventh and eighth innings, putting a solo homer and a sacrifice fly that awarded them two runs, but SNU's game-long dominance sealed the final 12-5 win.

Van Atten was on a tear, finishing with a 3-6 at-bat that earned him five RBIs.

Embrey and Entwistle were two Storm members with two hits, finishing 2-3 and 2-5, respectively.

Jacob Owen and Oliver Wilson teamed up on the mound, combining for nine strikeouts and only five runs allowed.

SNU hosts Bacone College Tuesday, March 7th for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
