SNU Seventh at Broncho Invitational

Storm battle weather to finish seventh at Broncho Invitational

EDMOND, Okla.—The Southern Nazarene Men's Golf team put together a solid performance at the Broncho Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, earning themselves a seventh place finish in the 16 team field.

Golfers battled tough conditions at the Rose Creek Golf Course. Strong winds and low temperatures made for long rounds for many competitors at the 7,048 yard, par-72 three-round tournament. Hosts Central Oklahoma came away with the team title at 894 (+30). They bested Northeastern State by just two strokes. The Bronchos' Bennett Baldwin won the individual title at 219 (+3). Just four strokes separated the top eight on the leaderboard.

SNU's seventh place finish was their best finish in a tournament this size since taking sixth in a 17 team field at the same tournament in 2017. They shot 923 (+59) as a team, just three shots off of Central Missouri for sixth place and two shots ahead of Missouri Southern. The Storm improved six strokes from round two to round three, shooting 310 in the second round on Monday, followed by a 304 on Tuesday.

Once again Sam Schmidt led the way for SNU as he took a top-20 finish in the 89 player field. His 228 (+12) led him to a T-18 finish as he climbed one spot during the final round.

Zander Tway and Noah Kern followed Schmidt on the team, finishing T-33 and T-37, respectively. Tway totaled 232 (+16), while Kern 233 (+17) was just behind him. Both were near the top of the leaderboard in total pars as Tway finished with 32 pars and Kern finished with 31.

Landon Hendrix and Theodor Naus rounded out the lineup for Southern Nazarene. Hendrix took a T-58 finish at 238, while Naus finished T-77 at 246.

Mason Sebrant competed as an individual in the tournament. He shot 84-87-82 for a three round total of 253.

Southern Nazarene will take a couple of weeks off before returning to action in Arkansas for the Natural State Classic at the Cypress Creek Golf Club, hosted by Harding on April 17-18. The GAC Championships follow that tournament April 23-25.
