BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene Baseball went 1-2 to open the series with Arkansas Tech, falling behind in Game 1, 15-2, but playing solid in Game 2 to win it 10-1.
Game 1
The Wonder Boys took advantage of bases loaded in the top of the second, singling through the left side to send two home, taking the 2-0 lead.
Tech ran the score up to 6-0 in the same inning, after a hit by pitch, an SNU error, and a single earned them four more runs. SNU finally got onto the board in the bottom half of the inning after Oliver Wilson singled up the middle to send Colby Entwistle across home plate, trailing the Wonder Boys 6-1.
Arkansas Tech put up another six-run inning in the third off a few hits and solid Arkansas Tech plays, ballooning to a 12-1 lead.
Both teams played through two scoreless innings, until Tech was able to tack on another run in the sixth off an SNU fielding error, leading the Storm 13-1.
The Storm were able to just before they reached their third out in the sixth, earning a run off of a Chance Bufford ground out that scored DJ Van Atten.
SNU couldn't keep Tech off the boards as the Wonder Boys earned the run rule with a homer to the ride side, ending the game with a final 15-2 win over SNU.
Game 2
SNU started differently in Game 2, getting in the board first with a Carson Kinnaird single that plated Cole Embrey for the 1-0 lead in inning one. The Storm extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning, starting with a Chance Bufford solo homer and a Dax Edmonds single to score Tyler Broyles.
Tech cut SNU's lead down to two runs in the third off a single to third base for an RBI.
In the fifth, SNU kept Tech from inching closer to a lead, serving Tech a third out off a double play where Oliver Wilson launched a throw from right field to get the runner out at home.
SNU brought the heat in the bottom half of the fifth, rocketing two back-to-back homeruns by DJ Van Atten and Carson Kinnaird, propelling SNU to a 5-1 advantage.
Casey Minchey continued to deliver the strikeouts to keep ATU off the score board racking up seven through six innings. Minchey's pitching gave SNU some room to tack on more runs, starting with Carson Kinnaird's single that have O'shea Whiteside the slide to home.
The Storm earned two more RBIs from a Colby Entwistle single that have Kinnaird and Edmonds the trip home. In the next at-bat, Oliver Wilson cracked one to left field, pushing Kinnaird across home plate and SNU quickly extended their lead to 10-1 with just one out on the board.
SNU will have one last game with the Wonder Boys Sunday, February 26th at 1 p.m., looking to close out the series 2-1 against ATU.
