SEARCY, Ark. — In their series closing game against Harding, Southern Nazarene fell behind in late innings with an ultimate 11-5 loss, finishing 1-2 over the weekend.
The Bisons (9-1, 2-1 GAC) put up 11 hits that rewarded 11 runs. The Storm's (3-6, 1-2 GAC) eight hits were not enough to stop Harding from running up the score.
The Storm got on the board first in inning one from a DJ Van Atten single through the right side that scored Dax Edmonds.
The Bisons took the lead in the same inning with a home run to right center good for two RBIs.
Moving through a scoreless 2nd inning, Harding extended their lead to 3-1 off of a fielder's choice in the third inning. With no runs between either team in the 4th, Harding turned up the heat in the 5th and 6th innings with five combined runs. The Storm were able to tack on two runs with a Van Atten grounding out to score Cole Embrey and Dax Edmonds scoring on a wild pitch.
In the 8th inning, the Bisons scored three more runs to SNU's single run, putting them behind even further at 11-5. SNU was given one final chance at turning the offense around, but were only able to land one run off a DJ Van Atten sacrifice fly. That was SNU's third out of the inning and Harding took the last win of the series with a final score of 11-5.
Southern Nazarene will suit up to play Central Oklahoma Tuesday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m.
