FORT WORTH, Texas - SNU Men's and Women's Bowling Teams traveled to Ft. Worth, Texas for conference action in the SWIBC III and IV events at City View Lanes. The Men's Team, currently ranked #18 in the Nation, were looking to build up points for the USBC Rankings prior to the Thanksgiving and Christmas break.
SWIBC III (Saturday)
SWIBC III featured five individual team games combined with 12 Baker team games. The SNU Men's Team led after the individual team games with a total of 5,000. SNU was the only team in the 10 team field to average 1,000 each game. The Crimson Storm went on to average 196 for the 12 Baker games and earned the SWIBC III title and the first win in the SNU Men's program history, topping Texas - San Antonio, who finished 2nd, by 168 pins.
"It's really cool to see this team to continue to develop and improve their game with each event," said Coach Jeffreys. "The pattern was somewhat tricky and we started off slow but the players worked well together led by the advice of Landen Hodge, made adjustments and found a way to earn the title. Landen is not eligible to bowl until second semester due to his portal transfer but he has been a huge part of our success through six events. His insight on lane transition and equipment changes has been so helpful to all the players."
The SNU Men were led by freshman, Tobias Hurte, who averaged 217 and made the All Tournament Team and freshman, Connor Anderson who averaged 207.6. "As I have mentioned before, Tobias is such a good leadoff player and will continue to improve," said Coach Jeffreys. "Connor has done a fantastic job being the anchor on this team. His game will continue to advance and this team is so fortunate to have Connor as the anchor."
The SNU Women's Team continued to gain valuable experience at SWIBC III and was led by freshman, Sienna Stoner who led the Women's field averaging 192.8 and earned another All Tournament Team honor. "There are so many great things about Sienna's game and she continues to perform at a level of which, she is still learning the differences in college game compared to high school," said Coach Jeffreys. "She's continuing to build her off the lane knowledge and that is going to make her an even better player but she's pretty good right now and more great future performances are headed the freshman's way."
SWIBC IV (Sunday)
The SNU Men's Team goal was to follow up on their first win in program history with a solid performance on a different lane pattern at City View Lanes in Ft. Worth, Texas. The goal was achieved. The Crimson Storm followed up their first win in program history with a 252 victory over Texas – San Antonio to earn their second SWIBC conference title. The Men's Team averaged 1,024 and was the only team in the 10 team field to average over 1,000 for the seven individual team games.
"This is a unique group of players," said Coach Jeffreys. "They work very hard at practice and have embraced what this program is about combined with the attention given to what it takes off the lanes to improve their game. Tobias Hurte continues to do an unreal job as our leadoff player and Canon Estes stepped up bigtime at this event."
Hurte finished second, Estes finished third and Connor Anderson finished 10th in the individual standings. Hurte averaged 207.1 and Estes averaged 206.3 and both made the All Tournament Team.
We have a huge Tier I event in St. Louis this weekend and the event testing will continue for this freshman group of players. It's going to be a challenging weekend in St. Louis."
History was made for the SNU Women's Team. The Crimson Storm Women's Team earned their first title in program history out dueling Texas A&M by 171 pins. "It was great to see the Women's Team get their first win, said Coach Jeffreys. "Kailee Wilcox and Mahalia Perkins stepped up their performance during key games combined with a solid outing by Gabby Heath and Makena Cruz to help secure the title. There was also a critical situation of which Savannah Hawkins came off the bench to finish strong during Game four. It was great to see players step up when other players were challenged by the 44 foot lane pattern. This was a team effort and I am hopeful for a solid performance in St. Louis this weekend."
Wilcox and Sienna Stoner earned All Tournament Team honors. This was Wilcox's first college bowling event and the left hander averaged 186.43 and finished second in the individual standings while Stoner earned here third All Tournament Team award of the 2023-24 season.
