CATOOSA, Okla.—The Southern Nazarene Women's Golf team traveled to the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Catoosa, Oklahoma for the 23rd NSU Golf Classic on Monday and Tuesday. They finished 9th of 15 teams over the two day tournament.
The Crimson Storm improved by 11 strokes on day two, building on a round one score of 326 to 315 in round two. This led to a 641 (+81) total for two rounds, placing them ninth overall in the tournament. That mark was one spot better than their season opening performance in Missouri last week.
Kendall Kerr and Sara Armstrong tied for the team lead in the tournament at 157 (+17). Kerr was consistent in both rounds, shooting 78-79 for two rounds. She tied for the tournament lead in par-3 scoring at 1-under and tied for eighth with 4 birdies. Armstrong had a great second round, shooting a 75 (+5) to move up 15 spots on the leaderboard and find herself tied with three others, including Kerr, at T-28.
Hannah Torres also improved in round two, building off an 83 (+13) in round one with a 79 (+9) in round two for a total of 162 (+22). She finished T-42 for the tournament. Not far behind her was Hallie Schultz, who shot 165 (+25). She shot 83 (+13) in round one and improved one stroke in round two at 82 (+12), finishing T-50 in the tournament.
Rebecca Davis rounded out the scoring for the Crimson Storm. She improved 14 strokes in round two, shooting an 83 (+13).
Arkansas Fort-Smith won the tournament after shooting 591 (+31).
Missouri Western State's Julie Hofanova won the tournament by one stroke at 144 (+4) after shooting a 69 (-1) in round two.
The team will now take a few weeks off from competition before competing in the UCO Grace Shin Invitational at the Golf Club of Edmond on October 3rd and 4th.
