Tigers Take Series Opener

East Central pulled off 16 hits to earn the 12-1 series opening win over the Storm

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene just couldn't get the job done Friday afternoon as they fell by 11 runs to East Central in the series opener.

The Tigers (3-30, 2-20 GAC) had everything going their way the entire contest, sprung by a 6-0 third inning to help kickstart their hot offense. Brian Brown was able to stun ECU with a solo homerun in the sixth, but the scoring was left there for the Storm (7-27, 4-18 GAC), leaving ECU to pile on four more to make it an eight inning game.

Scoring was slim in the first couple of innings, but East Central cracked the first hits on the afternoon, scoring six in the third to start the game off at 6-0.

The Storm couldn't get much to happen on their side and East Central continued to sneak in a couple of runs, growing their lead to 8-0 in the 5th.

Brown's blast thereafter would give SNU their first run of the contest, earning his 10th on the season, making it a score of 8-1.

ECU managed to score another in the seventh, shortly scoring three more in the eight, stretching their lead even further to 12-1.

With one last chance to turn things around, SNU struggled to escape the slump, leaving it to end in eight with a final ECU victory of 12-1.

Brown finished 2-4, brought by his solo homer and double that afternoon.

Tyler Broyles tallied a 1-3 finish while Cole Embrey and EJ Taylor both recorded a 1-4 finish.

SNU will get two more chances against the Tigers as they close the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9th beginning at noon.
