Bison Edge Storm

Oklahoma Baptist uses impressive hitting day to take Game 1 of the series

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Opening up their last series of the season, Southern Nazarene fell to the hot hitting of Oklahoma Baptist who took the opening game by an impressive 17 hits and six homeruns. The Storm (13-35, 6-25 GAC) had a couple of key moments that hoped to propel a comeback, but the Bison's (24-20, 16-15 GAC) offensive onslaught was just too much to handle as they finished with a 20-6 win over SNU.

The Bison opened with a four-run 1st inning, powered by a two-RBI homerun and a bases loaded throwing error by the Storm.

DJ Van Atten would help to get SNU's first score in the 2nd, reaching home on a fielder's choice, but that half inning diminished after two quick outs to leave SNU trailing 1-4.

OBU caught fire in the 2nd, putting up three back-to-back bombs to take their lead to 8-1. A couple of at-bats went by, and the Bison weren't finished, putting up a three RBI homer, mixed in in with some singles that cost the Storm eight more runs, giving the Bison a 16-1 advantage moving into the 3rd.

Tyler Broyles took advantage of EJ Taylor and Brian Brown on base, singling to center to advance both home for the 3-16 trail.

The trend continued for the Bison as they put up a 20-3 lead by the 6th inning. SNU caught a break in the 7th, with Brian Brown's double for three RBIs as Taylor, Cole Embrey, and Oliver Wilson made the trip home.

The Storm's 14-run comeback was cut short, and the Bison were crowned with the final 20-6 victory in Shawnee.

Brown led at the plate with three RBIs and double to finish 2-3. Broyles was right their with him as he earned two RBIs with a 2-3 finish. Taylor added a 1-2 finish while Van Atten finished 1-3.

SNU will conclude the series with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, April 30th at 1 p.m.
