Storm Close Out Season

SNU falls to OBU in their doubleheader to close the series and end the 2022 season

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene closed out the regular season with a hard fought battle to Oklahoma Baptist in their doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Bison (25-20, 17-15 GAC) continued their hot hitting in Games 2 and 3, earning both wins to close out the series. The Storm (13-37, 6-27 GAC) capped off a great season, marking the most wins in a season since 2015 when they also earned 13 victories for the season.

Game 1

Brian Brown picked up where he left off in Friday's game as he opened the doubleheader with a huge solo homer to right to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Bison countered with a homerun of their own to tie it at 1-1, followed by another bomb over the fence to earn two RBI's for the 3-1 lead.

DJ Van Atten put up the tieing double in the 3rd sending in Colby Entwistle and EJ Taylor for the 3-3 score.

The pitching held strong for both squads, with Casey Minchey delivering seven strikeouts through four innings to keep it gridlocked at 3-3.

The Bison reached home on a throwing error in the 8th, reclaiming the lead at 4-3. Working with two outs, OBU increased the advantage to 6-3 from a two-RBI single.

SNU was dealt with one last try at overcoming the deficit, but the hits were not in favor of the Storm in the final inning, awarding OBU the 6-3 victory.

Brown finished 1-3 that afternoon, powdered by his opening game homerun.

Van Atten put up a 1-3 finish for two RBIs and a double. Broyles and Embrey both finished 2-4 against the Bison.

Casey Minchey got the start on the mound for the Storm, pitching through 7.1 innings and delivering eight strikeouts in Game 1.

Game 2

OBU maintained their control in Game 2, putting up a two-run 1st inning to kick things off.

The Bison would double their score off of a homerun that sent in two in the 3rd, but the Storm were able to stall the momentum in the 4th.

Broyles' single to center would advance Taylor home for the 1-4 trail, but a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly in the bottom 4th propelled OBU to claim the 8-1 advantage in the bottom half of the inning.

Hitting remained a hot point for the Bison as six hits in the 5th added on four more runs under the Bison's name.

Struggles at the plate plagued the Storm from then on, and the Bison capitalized on their home turf, finishing the game with two homeruns to end it 16-1.

Broyles finished 1-3 with an RBI while Taylor and Van Atten also finished 1-3.
