Storm Drop Doubleheader to Tech

A Game 1 slump pushed SNU to a late comeback in Game 2, where they fell just short by a single score

After an offensive stump gave Arkansas Tech the easy 13-3 win in Game 1, Southern Nazarene put up an incredible fight in Game 2, rallying back from a 10-run deficit to bring it within one, only to reach the third out to give Tech the Game 2 victory at 12-11.

Game 1

The Storm (3-22, 0-14 GAC) caught a blow in Game 1 as Tech (13-8, 8-6 GAC) surpassed 10 runs by the seventh inning, calling it early to claim the 13-3 victory.

Tech opened the afternoon with a bomb to right field, earning the early 3-0 lead over SNU. Oliver Wilson stunned the Wonder Boys shortly after with his single to center field that scored Peyton Vinyard and Tyler Broyles for the 3-2 trail in the second.

The Green Gold were feeling hot at the plate in the third as they put up another three-run blast, pushing their lead to 7-2 with just one out.

Colby Entwistle gave Tech a taste of their own medicine as he homered to right center, cutting the gap to just four runs. With a runner on second, ATU singled to right field, gaining a 8-3 edge to close out the fourth.

SNU grew cold in the 5th leaving Tech to bring the heat with five quick runs to extend their lead to 13-3.

Both squads had hitting troubles in the sixth and seventh innings with zero runs put up between the two. Tech's early lead was just too large, leaving Game 1 to end in seven with a final score of 13-3.

Colby Entwistle led at the plate for SNU, finishing 2-4 that game, tacking on another homerun to his career. Oliver Wilson put up SNU's other homer that afternoon to earn two RBI's an a 1-3 finish.

Game 2

Arkansas Tech thought it would be the same story in Game 2, but SNU quickly turned the tables as they rallied from a 10-run deficit to bring it it within one in the seventh inning. The Storm would reach their third out, leaving Tech to scrape by with the 12-11 win, starting off 2-0 in the series.

Tech started controlled most of the way through in Game 2, putting up seven runs in the first to innings to SNU's zero. EJ Taylor's triple broke the scoring drought, giving Cole Embrey the trip home to put up SNU's first score of the ga,e. Brian made that two run's for SNU shortly after, sending in Taylor to trail Tech at 2-7.

The Wonder Boys continued to grow their lead, reaching 12 runs to SNU's two in the fourth. SNU stunned Tech in the fifth, beginning their comeback with a Taylor double that scored Jake Schow and a DJ Van Atten bomb over to left field to plate Brown and Taylor, giving the Storm a 6-12 trail.

Tech had no gas left in the tank, leaving SNU to continue piling on more runs as Taylor grounded one out to third base to send in Jonathan Crist, sending SNU behind 7-12.

In the final inning, the Storm were having everything go their way offensively, starting with a Noah Ellis single that sent in Colby Entwistle for the score. Oliver Wilson put up another single to plate Weston Hicks while Embrey's double would earn the Storm two more runs as Wilson and Mason Daly Scored, putting the Storm within just a single run behind Tech at 11-12.

Working with two outs in EJ Taylor's next at-bat, he grounded out to shortstop, receiving the third and final out, leaving Tech to creep by with the 12-11 victory in Game 2.

Van Atten was a huge contributor to the climb, finishing 1-4 with his homerun that brought in three RBI's. Taylor also gave SNU that extra edge late, finishing 2-4 with three RBI's and a double and triple each.

Embrey had an impressive offensive performance, finishing 3-5 with two RBI's and a double. Brown finished 1-3 with an RBI while Wilson went 1-1 with an RBI as well.
