Reddies Take the Doubleheader

Storm fall to No. 10 Henderson State in both games of their doubleheader Sunday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — With their home series against the No. 10 Henderson State moving to Arkadelphia due to weather conditions, Southern Nazarene dropped Sunday's doubleheader, 13-5 in Game 1 and 19-6 in Game 2.

Game 1

The No. 10 Reddies (13-0, 5-0 GAC) put the first two points on the board to start off the series.

SNU (1-13, 0-5 GAC) was quick to catch up as EJ Taylor doubled to left field, sending Cole Embrey in for the score. Brian Brown sent a bomb over to center field, getting EJ Taylor across the plate to put the Storm ahead 3-2.

Henderson stalled the Storm in the next two innings, putting up four more runs of their own to up the their lead to 6-3.

The Storm took back the momentum as Taylor's fly out to right field allowed Peyton Vinyard a trip across home. Tyler Broyles earned the Storm's 5th run as Cole Embrey's walk sent him in and the score read 6-5 in favor of Henderson.

The Reddies caught on fire in the final to innings, putting up a total of seven, leaving the Storm to grow quiet at the plate. Time would run out and Henderson State claimed Game 1, winning 13-5 over the Storm.

Brown recorded his fifth home run of the season, finishing 1-5 while tallying two RBI's.

Taylor recorded two RBI's as well, finishing 1-4 with a run as well.

Embrey, Vinyard, and Broyles each recorded run, finishing 1-1, 1-3, and 2-4 respectively.

Oliver Wilson recorded five strikeouts in his 3.1 innings pitched, only allowing three hits and two runs.

Casey Minchey spent the most time on the mound, recording four total innings with two strikouts.

Game 2

The Storm took the lead early at 1-0 to start off Game 2 as Cole Embrey reached home after a Reddie error.

Henderson scored one of their own to tie the game, but SNU's EJ Taylor struck one far down center field for his second homer of the season, also sending in Colby Entwistle to put the Storm up 3-1.

The Storm were struck with an offensive burst from the Reddies as they managed to put up 10 runs in the fifth inning, leaving SNU to trail 3-11.

The Reddies went on to score eight more in the sixth, growing their margin to 19-3.

Kobie Bowie, Vinyard, and Brown each scored in the final two innings, but the deficit was too large, leaving the Reddies victorious in Game 2 with a final score of 19-6.

Taylor had the offensive heat, earning a home run that evening while a recording a 1-4 finish with two RBI's.

Brown continued to help lead the offense, finishing 2-3 with one run.

Payne Maga pitched a total of 4.1 innings, recording seven strikeouts that evening. Jacob Owen and Kasen Jackson also tallied a strikeout each with their time on the bump.

The Storm will head back to Bethany for more GAC action as they host Southeastern Oklahoma State March 4 at 2:00 p.m. with a doubleheader on March 5th beginning at noon.
