MONTICELLO, Ark. – Southern Nazarene's baseball team took the long haul east to Monticello for a weekend tout with Arkansas-Monticello beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Storm (5-24, 5-18 GAC) put up a relentless effort in the second game, but the Weevils (13-14, 12-11 GAC) ultimately got the best of the Crimson Storm in both games.
Game 1
The first game of the doubleheader began at noon and in the first inning, the Storm were unable to put together any runs.
Noah Ellis hit a single to left field in the second inning which got things started for the Storm.
Brian Brown was able to advance home to score SNU's first run of the day.
In the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings the Storm couldn't score any runs as the Weevils built on their lead in all of those innings. In the seventh inning,
Colby Entwistle reached on an error by UAM that allowed
Noah Ellis to run in for SNU's second score of the day. Later in that same inning, E.J. Taylor hit a ground ball to second base which gave Ellis the opportunity to score another run for the Storm. SNU couldn't stop the Weevil onslaught as the final score of the first game of the day was 28-3 in favor of Arkansas-Monticello.
Ellis led the way at the plate for Southern Nazarene with one hit, one run, and one RBI.
Clay Lockett and
Brian Brown also had a good game as they both put together the stat total of one run and one hit.
Elijah Brady got the start on the mound for the Storm in the first game of the day as he recorded one strikeout in his time pitching for SNU.

Jacob Owen,
Caleb DeSouza,
Tanner Bare,
Adrian Flores, and
Brandon Rezek all came in relief for the Storm. They all put together a combined five strikeouts.
Game 2
Southern Nazarene got out to a blistering start as they scored four runs to open the nightcap against UAM. The first run came in the opening inning as
Clay Lockett took advantage of a wild pitch and gave SNU the early 1-0 lead.
Jarrett Phillips hit a solo home run to get the second inning started off right for the Storm to extend the advantage to 2-0. The third and fourth runs came later in the second inning as
Colby Entwistle hit a two run home run that scored Eric Guituerrez. At the end of the second inning, SNU had a controlling 4-0 lead over the Weevils.
After that, the Storm were unable to get anything on the scoreboard for the rest of the game, as UAM rattled off six runs to ultimately take the second game 6-4.
Clay Lockett had a big game at the plate for the Crimson Storm as he stuffed the stat sheet with two hits, two runs, and two RBI.
Jarrett Phillips also batted well as he put together one hit, one run, and one RBI.
Triston Graves got the nod on the mound for SNU in their second game. Graves allowed six runs and delivered two strikeouts.
Kasen Jackson came in relief, and he also provided two strikeouts.
The Crimson Storm will look to get back on track as they battle Arkansas-Monticello again tomorrow afternoon for the series finale. The final game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. in Monticello.
