ADA, Okla. – The Southern Nazarene Men's Baseball (5-21, 5-16 GAC) completed their series with the East Central Tigers (4-22, 4-17 GAC) in a 12-6 loss on Saturday afternoon in Ada. Despite falling in the series finale, SNU takes the series 2-1 with a couple wins on Friday night.
Today's win gives SNU their first Great American Conference series triumph since the 2018 season.
Southern Nazarene was unable to carry Friday's momentum into Saturday as the Tigers tacked on points early lead and didn't look back. The Crimson Storm opened the score with a
Colby Entwistle score off an
EJ Taylor sacrificial fly out to center field.
Afterwards, ECU went on a 3-0 tear until SNU answered with a Taylor single into center field that brought
Clay Lockett home, bringing the score to 3-9 at the top of the 5
th. The Crimson Storm scored four more times, once in the 7
th when Taylor crossed Lockett again and three others in the 8
th.
Unfortunately, the Tigers lead was insurmountable as they took the final game of the series.
EJ Taylor accounted for all but one of the team's RBIs as he brought home five after going 3-for-5 from the plate and scoring twice.
Colby Entwistle collected the other RBI with a 3-for-5 outing while scoring two times.
Clay Lockett finished 2-for-5 with two scores while
Austin Glock hit on three of his five attempts. Other notables were
Noah Ellis who scored once after going 1-for-2 and
Eric Gutierrez who also scored once.
On the mound,
Brandon Rezek clocked the most time as he pitched through 3.0 innings, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
Payne Maga and
Jacob Johnson each saw action in 2.0 innings a piece, as Maga struck out two and was credited with today's loss, brining his season record to 1-4. Others who took the bump wear
Jacob Owen and
Zach Birkle.
Southern Nazarene hopes to take the momentum of this series win and apply it as they will make the short trip over to Edmond for a Tuesday night contest against Oklahoma Christian (16-9, 14-8 LSC). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
