DURANT, OK – The Southern Nazarene Baseball Team would complete their GAC weekend series against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Durant.
SNU (0-9, 0-7 GAC) was not able to hold off the offense of the Savage Storm (6-4, 3-3 GAC) as SEOSU would complete their sweep of the series with wins of 13-3 and 11-5 on Saturday afternoon despite a resilient Crimson Storm effort in game two.
Game 1
Southeastern got out to an early lead by scoring seven times by the end of the 2nd inning. The Savage Storm's good fortune would continue through the next three innings as they would pile on seven more runs to make the score 13-0.
SNU would finally breathe life in the top of the 6th when EJ Taylor knocked a solo shot over the center-field wall to put the Storm on the board. Then in the 7th, Clay Lockett would fly out to center-field to score Austin Glock. Eric Gutierrez would come up to double down the right-field line and bring in Tyler Broyles.
Unfortunately, SEOSU would dismiss this comeback as the Savage Storm worked to come away with a 13-3 win.
EJ Taylor would lead the Storm with one home run from the plate while going 1-for-4 on the day. Eric Gutierrez would collect one RBI as he went 1-for-4 from the plate. The last player to bring in a runner on the day was Clay Lockett, who finished 0-for-3.
Other notables were Jarrett Phillips and Colby Entwistle, who would each go 1-for-2 in the contest.
Four SNU pitchers would make their way onto the bump as Triston Graves would clock the most time. Graves pitched for 3.1 innings, struck out one, and allowed nine runs. Graves would be credited with the loss and brings his season record to 0-2. Brandon Rezek, Kasen Jackson, and Jacob Johnson rounded off the Storm pitching rotation as Rezek was the only one to collect a strikeout.
Game 2
The second matchup of the day presented a more competitive game as the Crimson Storm were able to compile five runs overall. The first score game in the inaugural inning as Clay Lockett blasted a ball over the right-field wall.
Southern Nazarene would then come back strong in the 2nd inning with a couple of scores. Colby Entwistle collected his first homer over the season as he put one over the center-field wall to bring in Tanner Bare, tallying the score to 3-2.
By the top of the fifth inning, Southeastern would take back the lead by a score of 7-3. In this inning, Eric Gutierrez would help tack on more points for SNU as he singled into left-field to score Colby Entwistle. The last score from the Storm came by way of wild pitch as Brian Brown crossed home to make it 7-5.
The Savage Storm would turnaround to score four more times in the 7th to bring the final to 11-5.
Colby Entwistle would lead the Storm as he went 2-for-3 from the plate and homered to bring in a runner. Clay Lockett would also homer and go 2-for-4 on the day. Brian Brown made much of his action as he tallied two hits out of three at-bats.
Brett Rexroad would clock the most time from the mound as he pitched through 3.1 innings and struck out four batters. Rexroad faced 15 batters and allowed four runs. Elijah Brady would see action through two innings, allowing two runners to score out of the nine batters he faced.
Tyler Herritott and Payne Maga would complete the rotation as they combined to face eight batters. Herriott would strike out two batters in his time.
Southern Nazarene will be back in action on Tuesday as they will travel to Edmond to take on Central Oklahoma (2-2, 1-0 MIAA) in a non-conference contest. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
