DURANT, OK – The Southern Nazarene Baseball team traveled to Durant for the first game of their GAC series with the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm on Friday. SEOSU would get up big early and not look back as they beat SNU 16-1 in the series opener at Mike Metheny Field.
The Crimson Storm (0-6, 0-4 GAC) built a lead in the 1st inning when EJ Taylor flew one out to center field to bring in Clay Lockett, bringing the score to 1-0. Southeastern (4-3, 1-3 GAC) would immediately get their bats going in the 2nd inning as they compiled eight runs to bring their lead to 9-1.
The struggling bullpen of SNU couldn't put together a strong enough rotation as SEOSU would tack on six more runs and close the Storm out at 16-1.
Clay Lockett would be the only Storm player to cross the plate as he went 1-for-3 from the plate. EJ Taylor registered one RBI in his one at-bat. Jarrett Phillips and Cole Embrey would each go 1-for-2 in the contest while Brian Brown would round things off for SNU statistically as he went 1-for-3 on the day.
On the mound, Adrian Flores would clock the most time as he pitched for 2.2 innings, collect one strikeout, and allow three runs. Patrick Hine (L, 0-3) got the start on the mound as he only allowed one run in the 1st inning, but would struggle in the 2nd as he allowed eight runs. Hines would also collect three strikeouts in the matchup.
Austin Slate, Kasen Jackson, and Brandon Rezek would each share time on the bump as well. Of those, Slate was the only to collect a strikeout.
Southern Nazarene will be back in action tomorrow to cap off the series in a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
