Homerun Outburst

Three different SNU players homer in the 5-3 win against Harding on Saturday in Searcy.

SEARCY, AR – Despite falling in both games on day one of their series against the Bison, the Southern Nazarene Baseball team bounced back in the finale to beat Harding 5-3 on Saturday afternoon in Searcy.

SNU (2-17, 2-13 GAC) clinched their second win of the season as they made their presence known to HU (12-6, 9-6 GAC) by way of three scores in the 1st inning. The bats were hot and ready as three different Crimson Storm players homered to run up the score.

The homerun party started when Clay Lockett knocked one over the left field fence to break the seal. Thereafter, Colby Entwistle smacked a solo shot over the same wall to bring the score to 2-0. The hot scoring inning was rounded off with an EJ Taylor bomb down the left field line to give the Crimson Storm a 3-0 lead.

By the 7th, SNU held a 3-1 advantage but had more in the tank as a Tyler Broyles single brought Jarrett Phillips across home plate to tack on one more score. The Crimson Storm capped off their scoring in the 8th as EJ Taylor scored Clay Lockett off a sacrifice fly out to centerfield.

Southern Nazarene was able to hold off a two running 8th inning by Harding to prevail in the finale 5-3.

EJ Taylor led the Storm offensively as he finished 1-for-3 on the day with two RBI's and a homerun. Clay Lockett and Colby Entwistle both homered and went 1-for-3. Lockett also crossed the plate twice in the Storm's win today.

Tyler Broyles turned in a 1-for-4, one RBI, performance while Jarrett Phillips finished 1-for-3. Landon Walker rounded the work off as he went 2-for-3.

Payne Maga clocked the most time as he held the bump down for 6.0 innings, struck out three, and faced 27 batters. Maga would be credited with the win, bringing his record to 1-2 on the year. Jarrett Phillips and Brett Rexroad both came in as relief after Maga as Rexroad was credited with the save.
