OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – For the first time since February of last season, the Southern Nazarene Baseball (3-17, 3-13 GAC) team have won back-to-back contests as they cruised to an 8-5 win against Mid-America Christian (13-15, 2-7 SAC) on Tuesday in Oklahoma City.
This win comes just after their 5-3 series finale victory over Harding this past Saturday in Searcy.
SNU posted a couple of season-highs as the Crimson Storm registered 14 total hits and eight RBIs. This was the highest total of hits and RBIs since Southern Nazarene took on Oklahoma Panhandle State earlier this season where they finished with 12 and 7, respectively.
What seemed like an even match through the first four innings quickly took a turn as the Crimson Storm erupted for three runs at the top of the 5th. Brian Brown ignited the work as he scored the first point of matchup as Peyton Vinyard and Clay Lockett followed with their own scores. After shutting out the Evangels at the bottom of the 5th, Austin Glock opened the 6th with a three-run bomb over the centerfield wall to draw the score to 7-0.
SNU scored one final time at the top of the 9th as the tally read 8-1. MACU began to mount a desperate comeback at the bottom of the last inning, but the Crimson Storm held them to just four additional runs.
Austin Glock commanded the Storm from the plate as he finished the day 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. Jarrett Phillips had his best game yet as his bat popped for a 4-for-5 showing while scoring two twice. Colby Entwistle followed behind as he went 3-for-5 and collected two RBIs.
Peyton Vinyard was 2-for-3 at the plate, score one run, and batted in a runner, while Brian Brown scored twice for SNU. Another notable was Tyler Broyles, who had one hit and crossed the plate twice.
Freshman Kasen Jackson faced 25 batters, struck out a couple, and only allowed one run as he held the bump down for 6.0 innings. Today's victory gives Jackson his first win of the season, bringing his record to 1-0. Adrian Flores came in to meet 10, throw a strikeout, and allow three runs. Rounding the work off was Brett Rexroad and Elijah Brady, who wouldn't take much time on the mound as each faced four batters apiece. Brady also collected a strikeout while Rexroad was credited with the save.
Southern Nazarene will make a quick turnaround as they will host Northwestern Oklahoma State for a GAC series starting on good Friday, April 2nd. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
